I am looking at moving my piggies outside into a hutch in a summer house when myself and my partner move house soon.

I have had a look on the pets at home website and they seem to be quite reasonably priced and sized, however there are mixed reviews.

Has anyone got any personal experiences with hutches from pets at home? Or any recommendations to anywhere that sells nice ones?

Thanks!

I have the p@h bluebell hutch and I have to say I am very pleased with it. It is a good size and sturdy. I got it when it was on offer so even better!

I can't comment on outdoor durability - it was intended for outdoor use but both it (when new) and the piggies accidentally ended up in my lounge in October and haven't been back out since!

I am currently looking at the same one! They have 20% off at the minute too so seems like a good price and quite a nice size!
I intend on putting the hutch inside of the summer house so it's more sheltered and warm so will also be away from the outdoor weather!
Thanks!

I got a pets@home hutch last year and only used it in the summer. I have noticed that this summer its a bit wobbely so i have scewed some more wood supports onto it. and I think if your keeping it outside you will need a cover for it. As the wood is soft wood and won't last many rainy days or winters.mine was only £70 Its good for the money but I would buy their more expensive ones

I think they are OK for inside or in a shed but I have a Poppy Den and a Bluebell hideaway and neither are suitable to have outside unprotected. Also they both had gaps that needed filling and sealing and seem quite flimsy.

Personally, I would go for the largest single level hutch you can find. Single level hutches are much safer for guinea pigs and are easier to clean. I don't have experience with the P@H hutches, but I've heard good things about them.

I think they're really pants for the money vs what a local joiner can make. In terms of outdoor durability their hutches are dire unless you spent the time to weather proof them before using them and if you line the floors with lino you should be fine. Be prepared to reroof pretty quickly if using outdoors too. Local shed makers often do hutches from good materials rather than thin ply and thin t&g for the same money. A good hutch should outlast any small pet :) a good hutch should be really heavy and need two people to lift .... There isn't a hutch in p&h I can't carry alone :)

I have the P@H Bluebell hutch, very pleased with it, and excellent price for quality.
Took a while to construct, and you need a big vehicle to bring it home (or get it delivered) but it's got a lovely amount of space.

Lucky you!
I just missed the £80 offer... *turns around with narrowed eyes...*

Thank you all for your replies! I'll continue to shop around and try find someone local to get a quote :) thanks!

I just bought the Chartwell 5ft double tier hutch, in fact put it together on friday nigh and the piggies are going out in it today, after I sprayed it down (preventative mite treatment etc), I'll be posting later today regarding the quality etc.

I have a chartwell 5ft :) with a new solid roof they aren't bad just dear and thin but mine is 5 now and still OK but it needs new floors so if looked after they aren't too bad really

Search the hutchman (especially if you have Instagram) just had a 6ftx 2ft single tier hutch custom Made and such good quality, much much better.

Hi, I brought my bluebell hideaway hutch when it was on offer :) For my 3 baby boars I strongly recommend anyone reading this to buy the weather cover for it as well it's normally on offer at the same time as the hutch p@h have had this hutch on offer twice in the last few months so if you miss out and can wait my tip is keep checking their website.
The soft wood is thin in some places, I'm not happy with the back panel but I will get this replaced as soon as poss, also I've noticed a large gap between the back wall and the roof which I'm going to screw together. I'm appox 80/90 % happy with it, it's a great size and I'm only hoping to use this during the summer then having them inside during the winter.
I've lined my hutch with Lino I would really recommend doing this it makes it quicker to clean, I'm planning on using fleece vetbed on the top layer once my boys are better.image.webp

Here is one of my Guinea Pig play houses, What do you think?

My bluebell hideaway constructed today. Love it already just waiting for everything to dry :)10441362_10154332764250363_5174274006268280728_n.webp 10457839_10154332765305363_1409752652421724362_n.webp 10487439_10154332764965363_377979238395929081_n.webp

It's just square print lino :) Cut to size and glued down. Easy to wipe and keeps it clean and the flooring underneath dry :)

I think it is much better to have it installed for the customer. This saves them the time cutting and trying to shape it when the hutch is already built. I can install it and build the hutch around it. Do you have it glued in or should it be removable?
