so I was browsing the Pets at home website out of boredom just to see what they had that I cannot order anyway.

And I came across a product that dissolves pet hair during the machine wash cycle. It’s called “Vamoosh” and immediately got me thinking of all those hairy fleeces we all lament on this forum.

Wonder if it would be safe to use while washing piggy bedding.

It sounds good, next time I'm in the store trying not to go near the adoption cages I'll see if I can find it!

Mmmm I’m a bit sceptical I’m afraid. I’m not familiar with the product but I’d imagine it would have to be an extremely hot wash (I wash my fleeces on a 60 degree). I wouldnt want to risk any chemicals either. I use non biological laundry liquid, no conditioner. So be careful.... these little piggies are sensitive little fur balls. Xx

Don't think the vetbed would like that heat to often! I do wonder if it disolves hair what it would do to plastic pipes over time.

Hmmm... It does look interesting. Apparently, the active ingredient is active oxygen:
The Science | How Vamoosh works | How to wash pet bedding

I will have to check with my friendly neighborhood chemistry geeks if it would be OK to use. I don't think the active oxygen can harm the pigs, especially not after an additional rinse (I'm already adding half a dose of an active oxygen stain remover for its disinfectant properties), but I'm skeptical as to its hair dissolving properties.

From the FAQs:

Vamoosh is based on oxygen based bleaching agents. Full ingredients are: Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Carbonate Peroxide,Tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED), Silicone Oil, Silica, Perfume.

Vamoosh does not contain enzymes or other ingredients that can remain on the treated pet bedding and so does not cause any irritation. (Which makes sense. However, perfume is always a potential irritant.)
