Pepe has us worried (still)

Thanks Fiona, I think I'm just feeling a bit sorry for myself at the moment! *must not self pity* lol I know I would do anything in my power for my boys, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong, or missing something. With Scampy and Blaze, they had no symptoms, went to bed they were absolutely normal, came downstairs next morning they had really bad runs and all fluffed up and died within hours. I'm hoping this is different - they are still really, well, themselves (so far). I'll make a list of things, but nothing has changed, I haven't even given them grass for a couple of weeks as its so poor at the moment. Thanks for your support!

BTW about giving boys Dioralyte - does anyone know how much we are supposed to give? They've had about 4ml this evening made up as directed on the packet... I don't want to overdo it in case I give them too many salts!

On a different note, whats Aspergers Syndrome? Hope it means Ryan is still okay?

Why are you syringe feeding? Have you tried stopping the syringe feed if they are eating that is and seeing how they are? I guess that the diarrohea was bad before you started though ::)

Have you tried the herbal wormer? I have no idea if that would work and can't really see that it would be related, but to be honest I would be trying everything and be in at least as much of a spin as you.

LJs idea re a diary of everything sounds good. And no you're not incompetant, I've met incompetant and its not you!

lol thanks. Just ignore my post back then, I was having a low moment. I was syringe feeding Pepe as he had lost so much weight, over 105g due to not eating (the original purpose of this thread!). He was and still is now on the Vetrumex (he will be for another 3 weeks) which I syringe to make sure he gets it all, twice a day. Now Dylan is on that too, since this morning with the runs, but as from yesterday I stopped the Critical Care as he had started to put on weight. So he shouldn't need the C Care any longer. Now of course I have to grind down the Buscopan and the Diocalm for the next day or so depending on how they get on. Not to mention the constant cleaning of the mess, it's not pleasant. I've just had a really crappy few weeks due to other stuff and because we are never likely to know what killed Scampy and Blaze, we are constantly on red alert just in case. We've had a throat swab and faecal pellet lab work done, which both tests showed stuff which needed treatments but that was weeks ago. It just seems to be one thing after another, and I guess most people start to doubt their ability as good piggie owners...

Haven't tried the herbal wormer. They were wormed at the CCT weeks ago, so hopefully it shouldn't be parasites. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Any idea how much Dioralyte I shoud be giving them?

I think I read somewhere else on the forum a while back that you make up the dioralyte as per instructions on the packet and syringe it little and often. You have probably read Peter Gurney`s advice on diahorrea but incase you havent

Ryan is fine :)asperger syndrome is on the autism spectrum. Now I know what is special about him, I am devouring books on the subject so I can help him as best as I can ;)

Stay positive hunny ;)

I'd never heard of Asperge Syndrome. Does it mean that he'll be okay in the long run with lots of care and support?

I just feel really tired today and not feeling as sorry for myself like I was last night, ready to fight another day! I didn't get to bed until 1.30 last night and was up again at 5.30 am to wash all their yucky messes up again. I've been giving them a few 1ml syringes last night and this morning, hope I haven't given them too much! My in-laws have kindly popped around to see how they're doing and said theyre still with spirit and the runny tums have firmed up a bit thank goodness, although Dylan had managed to walk through it and spread it around the C&C, lovely!

Thanks everyone for your help and support. Hopefully they are on the mend. I just don't know what I'd do without this forum!

I feel the same about this forum, it is my little haven :D People on here are wonderful and so supportive.
Aspergers is a form of autism so Ryan will always have it but knowing means I can get him the support he needs at school etc
You need to look after yourself as well as your piggies though!

Hi ,

It is very hard work when you have a piggy that is sick and needs syringe feeding,as you say,it is almost 24/7.,and very stressful because you are continuously worrying and wondering if you should be doing anything else to help them. You are doing a great job in looking after your pigs.

Diarylite can be given for as long as the diarrheoa persists.Give approx. 2mls at least every hour.,if they will take a bit more that is o.k. but do not give more than 4mls at a time.

Julie so sorry to hear all is not well. Sending healing hugs and vibes from me and the gang O0

Thanks :) They are so chirpy today, they wheeked like mad when I started preparing Oscar's food (poor guys can't have any greens and boy do they let me know they're feeling left out!) They are still producing a nasty, sticky mess, but at least it's not liquid. Sorry, I've never talked about poo so much since having piggies! Pepe has taken to hiding under the vetbed and just sitting there 98) but as soon as Dylan comes near the divider, he leaps out and rumbles at him ::)

Thanks for the advice on the salts, will take heed. I think I may have given them a couple over the 4ml yesterday as I wasn't sure what I was doing but they've only had minimal today.

Hope things improve julie, i know how worried you must be and tired. Hopefully they're over the worst, you've done a great job for them x

Hi Katie, haven't 'seen' you for a while

Yes, he's started to gain weight, got his appetite back and seems on the mend. He had a nasty bout of runs late last week, and so did Dylan, but made a sudden recovery on Saturday morning. We've had some tests carried out which we should get the results of soon, whether or not they will show anything up remains to be seen!

Thanks for asking :)

oh gosh Julie - what a worry! What a stressful time its been for you lately. :(

Me and my girlies send you and Pepe loadsa luv and best wishes :smitten:

How are Pepe and Dylan today? continuing to improve I hope!

Poor boys, you must have been worried sick.
I am really glad they seem to be on the mend - I wonder what caused it?

(Haven't been on for a while as started back at work after hols/food poisoning, and work is as bad as ever!)

You still feeling the effects of that food poisoning Katie, poor you! My sister had it once and she was suffering for weeks, it sounds awful. Hope you are feeling a bit better.

You know how these little chaps get to you ::), yes, when Pepe's runs looked even worse on Friday I was really beginning to panic a bit. Good news is, Pepe is continuing to gain weight, slowly, but surely! His appetite seems pretty much normal again, thank goodness.

Thank you to everyone who asked after them :)

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) keep up the good work Julie/Marty/Pepe. Glad to hear the little fella is still improving - what a relief.

Thanks Sandra - we had some further good news today - the vet called with the results this afternoon and they couldn't spot anything to worry about from his samples. So fingers crossed!

A mystery ::) as long as he is all better now, thats the main thing...really pleased :)

So pleased to hear that finally things are settling down for you all. You have certainly been on an emotional rollercoaster. I expect you have forgotten what normal piggie life is like !

I just wish all the piggies had a mum and dad like you :)

Anyway sending both of you and of course "the boys" my very best wishes :)
