Peeing blood and neck lumps

Thank you. I’m worried too. I’ve been getting carried away with self-diagnosis of lymphadenitis (which can cause bloody wee) or lymphoma. Simon thought it was his lymph nodes the other day which he thought may have been caused by him having fought off a URI we didn’t know about. I’m not sure about that as Harry has been very well in the year he’s lived with me.

We’re seeing Simon at 10.30am so I hope he can aspirate one of the lumps whilst Harry’s having his X-Ray.

Ive had two piggies with lymphoma and that’s what I worry about too :( But a lump aspiration should tell you more and hopefully it won’t be that xx

Hope all went well at your visit to Simon this morning. I’m just on catch up at the moment and didn’t realise your little man was so poorly the other day. Fingers crossed it won’t be nothing but an infection. Sending healing vibes to Hamish and Harry x

Unfortunately things are not looking good and I face some tough decisions later today. All of Harry’s lymph nodes have formed lumps Simon said and this could well be due to septicaemia caused by unknown infection but he suspects Leukaemia. However, Simon felt that if it was leukaemia, Harry presents as remarkably bright.

He’s going to X-Ray Harry anyway but if he finds a stone, he will call me to discuss the placement and decide whether to operate or put Harry to sleep.

He can send a lump for testing but this will be very costly and, ultimately, there would be nothing we could do.

I’m in such shock and cried all the way home when I left Harry. I feel I need to know about the stone anyway for my own piece of mind but I’m having to face making a huge decision today.

It doesn’t help that I’ve got to run a choir session this afternoon as they can’t get cover and the kids have a concert on Saturday.

So very sad and upset. 😢

A bit of relief - Simon called to say no stone so he will flush through and change antibiotics. We decided against sending a lump away. I don’t want to put Harry through any further soreness and it would only be for knowledge anyway. The prognosis for Lymphoma or Leukaemia is not good so we are just going to monitor and Simon will give me info on what to look out for when considering when it’s the right time for Harry to go to the bridge.

Very pleased I can now go to my choir session knowing I haven’t had to make the heartbreaking decision today. Xx

Aw I’m so sorry it isn’t good news about the lumps :( Lymphoma / leukaemia is the worst news you could ask for :(

I am however glad that there isn’t a stone and that you can spend precious time with your special boy before the bridge calls for him xx

Sending you big hugs and a big cuddle for Harry. I agree there is no point in sending off lumps as it won’t change treatment, that’s what Simon said to me on Bill’s lumps on Monday. So glad there’s no stone to deal with but so sorry for Harry’s prognosis x

No words, just support and HUGS. Sorry it’s not what you wanted.

Yes, I’m really pleased he doesn’t have the added complication of a stone. Hopefully the different antibiotics (Marbocyl) will help clear up the infection. There is a small chance the lymph node lumps are the result of an infection and may subside but Simon seemed to think this is a less likely scenario. Either way, l’ll make sure he has lots of TLC.🙂

Massive hugs. At least you know what you’re dealing with and can make precious memories everyday xx

Sorry you have had such bad news. Big hugs from me and the piggies.

Sending big hugs to you and Harry x
Sometimes it easier knowing what’s wrong than worrying about what if‘s, but sorry it wasn’t better news x

Unfortunately, Harry doesn’t seem to be doing well. He just sits for most of the day, still pees blood and the minuscule amount of poo he does is diarrhoea. He is barely eating and is dropping weight.

I managed to get him to eat a little last night by giving him some time with Hamish. They had their tea together and it encouraged him to try a bit of food but then he just sat watching.

He is strongly resisting syringe feeding when he has the Marbocyl but I may have no alternative but to “force feed” to give the antibiotics longer to work.

I’ve moved him next to Hamish & Herbie’s cage. Even though Hamish is a frail old man, all my boys love him and treat him like some sort of “God.” He is an excellent Grandpa pig to them all. ❤️

I am so sorry you are having such a hard time. Sending you and your piggies my very best wishes and hugs. Get well soon Harry. X

Poor Harry, hope he picks up soon X
Sending you big hugs at this awful time for you x

Things are not good still with Harry. Hamish is encouraging him to eat a bit but he isn’t that bothered. He’s still peeing lots of blood and is squeaking when peeing. I’ve decided to add Hamish’s Tramadol in which Simon said I could do if he’s still struggling.

Does anyone have any suggestions on trying to keep him clean and dry? He’s soaking underneath. I switched to hay and puppy pads having decided to throw out all fleece and towels. I have been wiping him with unscented puppy pads and drying with paper towels.

I think I’ll have to give him a bum bath but I think this will only help temporarily.

I wish I had advice for you but all I can offer is support
Thank you, I do appreciate it. I would have thought we’d have seen some improvement on the UTI front a week in. When Algy had one, he stopped peeing blood within just a couple of days of starting antibiotics. I guess Harry potentially has the added complication of the lymph node lumps so it may, sadly, all be part and parcel.

One of the reasons I’m holding off on a decision and am trying to see if we can get Harry better from his UTI is due to a mysterious new development. Having had the shock of Harry’s lumps discovery, I checked all seven other pigs. ALL, apart from Hamish, have some lumps at various lymph nodes. Imagine my shock and meltdown over this discovery. However they all present as very well.

Simon is going to compare some of them to Harry next week to rule out my concern of a herd infection. I am so very worried about them all now (and the potential high cost of having all pigs seen and treated) but I’m trying to keep calm and focus on Harry & Hamish currently. The other lads are all acting normally so it could be I’m just being hyper vigilant and they have harmless lumps. I also wonder if it could be stress related. They have been a little quiet throughout Harry’s illness but that’s the only out of character thing.

Sending you big hugs, what a horrible situation.
The only thing I can suggest is vet bed with a big wad of absorbant material underneath, I use newspaper. I found this was invaluable in Brackens bed when he was post bladder op and weeing a lot.
Sending healing vibes to Harry. X

I may well have to order some vet bed. I find it a bit annoying as the hay gets stuck in but I don’t suppose it’ll matter as a short-term solution. X

aw, poor Harry, it’s no fun been wet when you are poorly x
I use vet bed in their beds with newspaper underneath normally. At the moment I have added an Asda noodle bath mat £6 between the vet bed and newspaper. It keeps them very dry and wicks well at all levels. Bill‘s wound has been lovely and dry, he been no worry at all, just got on with life after this op x

Vet bed and hay definitely do not mix, I use a stiff old hair brush to get it all out, then wash inside a draw string bag (like a pump bag)
Hope you get some idea of what’s going on when you see Simon and you can get Harry sorted x Sending hugs

I'm having to change the newspaper 2 or 3 times a day in Spike's fleece bed at the moment but he is staying dry. How badly the hay sticks does seem to depend on the vetbed. I've got lots of it from different places, I can't remember where the better one came from. I've got a feeling it was pet and home in Cheddar. I brush mine off with a very stiff brush and wash it in a wash bag. If you're only using small bits in beds you could wash it in a pillow case fastened with an elastic band.

Thanks @Bill & Ted I'm having a why didn't I think of that moment over the noodle mat!
Those noodle mats are great from Asda, fit inside my Plaza 160 width wise too and at £6 a shot it’s a lot cheaper than fleece (even when you make your own, the cost and effort, not sure if it’s worth it) I’m really impressed!
