Poor guy! Was the abscess actually in his throat? Did they go in and drain it through the mouth or did they go in through the cheek?

the abscess is in his throat and they drained it also it is the end of the day of the anesthesia and he is not doing well he is very lethargic is this normal?

My guinea pig looks horrible right now I think I need to prepare for the worst :( I have had the worst luck with guinea pigs and major things Like this

Could you get him back to the vet if you’re worried now?
Anaesthetics can be tough on piggies so he could be feeling bad from that but think it’s best to see the vet if you think he’s looking very bad.

It is 5:28 AM I don’t think I can right now by what I mean by horrible is that his heart rate is slow to the point where I can count it

No not really he is just lying there breathing but he has not been responsive since the treatment

Do you not have out of hours vets there?

If we did I couldn’t possibly go right now my parents are asleep and I just woke up because I cannot calm my mind down

well his heart rate is better now it is faster than I can count he is sneezing a lot but I suspect is normal since breathing problems are normal after anesthesia

Ok that’s good then.
Have you seen him eat or drink since bringing him home?l You could try offering him some food and see if he has a nibble.
Anaesthetics can take a while to get out of their systems obviously and it sounds like a sore op for him poor guy.

No I have not seen him eat and I am giving critical care and giving him water. He could care less about the veggies I offer him

It’s good you’re giving him CC then if he’s not interested himself.
Was he sent home with painkillers? I can imagine he’s pretty sore.

I’ve got to get off now but hope he’s feeling better soon. If you’re worried about him at all I’d definitely get him back to the vets so they can give him a check over.

You will now need to weigh him daily at the same time. If he's not maintaining his weight (losing) then you have to adjust the syringe feeding accordingly.

We are taking him back to the vet next week (sooner if he doesn’t recover from anesthesia ) To see his progress and I will do the above thank you

What type of metacam was prescribed? Is it a cat one or the dog one? If it's a cat metacam, the dosage is low, and it should be given 2x a day.

0.4ml of dog strength metacam twice a day, around 12 hours apart is what I give as a standard for pain relief.
This needs to be twice a day as guinea pigs have a very fast metabolism, so after 12 hours the pain relief will be completely gone from their system and so needs to be given again

Now he is not using one of his feet.... does that have to do with anythin?

Do you mean he is dragging his foot behind him? I would take him back to the vet just for a check

Poor little chap, he looks a bit fed up. Can you ring your vets now and have him checked over?
