I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I just thought I would ask people's opinion to stop my paranoia. I noticed a couple of caterpillars on the ceiling in my bedroom where my guinea lives and did some googling and discovered that its the larvae to the pantry moth. Looking around the cage it became clear they had come from the guinea pig food. I have removed the larvae and completely cleaned the room, steam cleaned the cage and everything in it and changed his bedding. I've also binned his food and hay and replaced it. I don't think I'll have a problem again with the moths because it seems to have been a very small infestation.

The thing I'm worried about is that he has been eating infected food and therefore could have eaten moth eggs. Can they hatch inside him or would his digestive system kill them?

Ooh. That's an interesting question. I wouldn't think they would hatch inside a guinea pig. Look it up on line, lol. that's what I always do when I don't know the answer. Lol.

Every ounce of common sense within me says that they cant but anything to do with my guinea makes me think the worse!

Sounds like you are a worrier just like me too. Lol.
