Hi everyone.

Ive been giving both my guineas oxbow urinary support tablets for a year now after a particularly dressing urthera stone developed for my piggy Mavis.

Although she is a piggy prone to this as many are, combined with a multitude of adjustments we seem to have kept any reoccurrence at bay/ sludgy urine to a minimum.

One of these adjustments was giving the oxbow urinary support tablets (recommended by people here and her vet) and ive had a regular order delivered from amazon for the last year. However the last two deliveries have been cancelled due to stock issues and i cant seem to find anywhere near me that stocks them. I have maybe 2-3 weeks stock left if i only give Mavis a tablet and was wondering if anyone had alternative brands etc that i could use if the stock issue persists.

Any help would be much appreciated

I wonder if there is a transatlantic supply issue - both of Oxbow's Urinary Support and Joint Support tablets are out of stock at VetUK, the supplier I used to use.

An alternative would be to use Feliway Cystease capsules, the main ingredient of both is glucosamine which eases urinary pain by re-lining the bladder wall.

Hi

I would recommend switching to Feliway cat cystease capsules (UK brand) instead when you review the situation by the end of the week. These are widely available online; they are classed as a food supplement and not as a medication.

If you do, we will tell you how to use them then. What you need is a glucosamine based product. The cheapest alternative are human joint care tablets but they taste horrible and you only need a small amount of a tablet. The capsules are much easier to dose and usually go down well with piggies.

I have not been able to buy or order online the joint support tabs anywhere in the US either

There seems to be a supply issue with Oxbow but there are thankfully alternative options. But you have to look around for them. Try cat bladder supplements or human glucosamine joint care tablets - you have to work out the correct dosage though. ;)
