Operation day - ovary removal

She is still rumble strutting but I guess that'll take a few day to settle down? Anyone know how long it takes the hormones to leave her body?

It takes a while for hormones to settle down.

Dominance mounting and rumblestrutting will always remain socially interactive behaviours. My most rumbly sow has been Hafren, who I adopted already spayed but who did it regularly in her rather competitive relationship with partner-in-crime Iola, even after Iola's own spay...
 
I got a half hearted wheek out of Ginny at veg time today. She's stuffing her face making up for lost time. Her poo is slightly pointed but nowhere near as bad as I thought it might be. Absolutely amazed how well she is.
I've not seen her drinking yet but am not worried as she doesn't drink much anyway.
 
I have had several sows have this procedure and they have all done very well. So pleased that your girl is recovering so speedily
 
Ginny is now acting like nothing has happened! She's started wheeking when the fridge door opens, letting me stroke her and generally being nosey. The only thing she's not doing is lying down, but that's understandable as it can't be comfortable just yet.
Going to the vet's for a check up tomorrow, looking forward to showing off how well she is doing. Feel like a proud mum.

Just been the vets for a post op checkup. The vet is pleased with her progress. Just have to go back in 3 weeks to check her fur is growing back. She's already got 5 O'clock shadow on one side, it's all prickly lol.

My sow Dot had her spay operation and cervical tumour removed on the 3rd of may. Today is the start of week 3 recovery and her fur has grown back about half way so far. Shes a smoothe haired
 
Been watching Ginny on the webcam from work today. She kept trying to bite her wounds then was nibbling frantically at the floor. Got home to find she's teeth chattering as well.
Took her back to the vets and he said one of her wounds was swollen. Vet didn't seem worried about it though.
Upping her painkillers for 3 days in the hope that it will calm down again.
On the upside, both pigs are now more comfortable going to the vets. Sat in the waiting room watching them both eating hay.
