After I told them they can start mating from 3 weeks this is what I got back

The young will not be able to mate each other before the males reach puberty at 8-10 weeks, although in a family group the females would be at risk of being mated by their father once they reached puberty at around 4-5 weeks. They should, therefore be separated form their father before this age.

Now I thought it was more the males getting the mum pregnant again?

What a load of codswallop! Things like this make me so angry! Dad can get mum pregnant straight away and babes about 1 month onwards! Maybe contact the RSPCA asking them to back up your claims so you can respond back. Or we could do it. :)

I feel like I have to reply but no sure what to say without getting arrested :tickedoff: ;D

Maybe I should send them a link to this thread?

like Sian I didn't know about rescue until I came here and I did read up on the care of guinea pigs on websites I just never visited any forums to become aware of rescues.

Same here Louise, I had looked after Piggies for friends decided i wanted some babies of my own so got some from a friend prior to this i read books and looked up info on websites. Discovered this forum after i got Trinny and Susannah. Honey came from Niki through this forum then I became a RSPCA foster mum got Murphy that way then got Jimmy and Joe from Graham and Romey a few months after also from Graham. Rescues all the way now but not everyone will discover rescues and this forum before getting them. :)

I don't have a rescue near me :( and didn't know about p@h's reputation as it was new to the island so bought 2 sows, luckily only one was pregnant. I'm just so mad about this because it's not as if this information is unreachable. I was totally un-educated about preggie piggies and birth, babied etc. but i went and read loads, until i knew everything i needed. and as a pet shop especially, they should have to know how to look after their animals properly and give out the right advice! :tickedoff: They have a responsibility to give good advice to their customers and look after them correctly. It's basic knowlege :tickedoff: :tickedoff:
