Specialist Nystatin - dose, organs, weight loss

I haven’t actually, I’ll get some ordered now. Thank you! The last thing I want to do is put him off being syringe fed when it’s the one thing bringing us peace of mind, just to know he’s definitely had something is reassuring.
I know, it’s just hard not to blame yourself :( the funny thing is I had actually read the nugget comparison chart when Digby came back with the science selective but I couldn’t find it on the list. I could only see the grain free version which is Timothy hay based so I assumed the regular would be something similar. It’s only when I’ve revisited the chart now that I actually saw the normal science selective is at the top of the list  it was a silly mistake. We’ve binned the bag now though.
Hope Little likes the Emeraid, it’s a little bit cheaper too 😄
I’ve never looked at the chart to be honest, none of them are big pellet fans and Ted hated them, always preferred the muesli mix, which I let him have occasionally as a treat (naughty I know, but hey)

Hi, @Little Ones

I haven't heard of Nystatin being used in guinea pigs, until now.

I have done a little research which has suggested that the identified yeast is usually harmless, but can be pathogenic if given the opportunity.

The dosages prescribed seem to be appropriate.

I do hope that Little begins to show an improvement soon.

That’s what we had thought too. Simon knew what yeast it was and wasn’t against treating it so it must mean there’s still room for it to be something ‘bad’ rather than entirely good - if that makes sense?
Little is doing okay overall though, his weight is increasing thanks to providing him oats, pellets and syringe food so we aren’t as worried now that we are keeping him fed and happy. Let’s see what happens now that he’s begun the medication 🤞

Come on Little.

I just wanted to add that if you do get the cold pressed pellets and want to try making them up to syringe feed than giving them a quick blast in a coffee grinder (that hasn't ben used for coffee obviously) or a blender like a Nutribullet can really help.
We actually have a small cup from the Nutribullet that is reserved for animal use only so we can grind pellets if needed.

Thank you for the tip! We also ordered the emeraid sustain so if he turns his nose up at that then I’ll get a nutribullet for the pellets. After these bladder problems out of nowhere, I will be using the grass-based cold pressed pellets now rather than any other pellets so that tip will come in handy for future syringe-feeding purposes if not now. Thank you, that’s really helpful!
