I am getting my girls a new cage next month, as they are currently in the cage they came in when i rescued them which is only 100cm :(.

I Was looking at the either a C&C cage which is only £32 but is canvas bottem, even though can be replaced and is easy to wipe

Or the Skyline Maxi from Zooplus as also In budget and a very good price

But I am not sure what one to get, as the skyline would be easier to have and maintain with cleaning and woodshavings.

but i would love them to have the first cage as it is bigger, but could be a pain to get clean and the bottom could get ruined easy as they pee everywhere, they are litter trained yet and not sure if it will work with them. and I would love to have them on fleece once litter trained but dont have a washing machine yet. and looks like shavings would cost a lot with a c&c cage.

I need helping in choosing and what the best one would be. I am tempted to buy both as have birthday money so they have a c&c cage when they are ready but hamster also needs a new cage :/

You could get a c&c with a correx bottom, they are plastic so easy to clean and don't really stain. Somebody on here makes c&c's for people, I'll try and find the website. Or you can buy some grids and correx and make one pretty cheaply yourself :) Correx is about £4 from teacrate packaging, £6 (ish) postage.

EDIT: here's the website http://correxcages.weebly.com/ of course it's more expensive as somebody is making it for you, but it's an option.

I know you can also pick up correx signs free from estate agents, they're quite keen to get rid of them this way as they have to pay to recycle them, then all you'd have to pay for is grids. I did that and although I'm now replacing my correx which cost me £6, it originally cost me £20 to build my whole c&c cage (estate agent signs + second hand grids). It is 2 x 3.5 grids (the loft cost extra later down the line).

I am really bad at making them, and ready made ones are £70 :/. I think i would have the same problem with a correx bottom then i would with a canvas one

From my experience correx doesn't absorb wee at all, it all goes on the bedding. I'm only replacing mine due to switching from fleece and I'm fed up of seeing estate agent names in my cage :)) You could always try doing that, then if it goes wrong, it hasn't cost you money? (See my last post - I added info).

We have used a ferplast 120cm cage for 2 piggies and siwtched to a C&C for 3 pigs. We started off on fleece wit hthe C&C but have reverted to woodshavoings as we were finding the washing machine was always on.... and Cookie has always been on woodshavings without an issue. I would try fleece but dont rule out would shavings in a 2x% C&C we use 3 quarters of a bag per clean.

kimlou5288 on here runs http://correxcages.weebly.com/cage-sizes.html

and also c&c cages do them http://www.candccages.co.uk/standard-cages/ we bought ours from them on ebay and some liners from Kim.

Otherwise a 120cm cage would do the job, we have always used them previous to having 3 pigs. Zooplus have one on offer the Ferplast 120cm we have used this cage for years and are very pleased with it http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rabbit_cage/120_cm_cages/14083

Hope that helps a little

edit: The skyline Maxi looks good also.

Cant get the materials to make my own and it would turn out really bad. The one i have seen, has 5 star reviews from people so cant be that bad. i could get a correx one but no idea when and would mean saving up for 2 months which dont really want to do as just moved and things to get for the home. the only problem is mine dont pee in just one corner, they have about 5.

i have seen loads of people have nice shop brought cages aswell and still could have fleece in it once i have washing machine to wash them all

Such a hard choice, as would love the homemade cage i saw, but they cant be on fleece yet and not sure how woodshavings would work, that is a lot to use in them. i currently buy 8kg in the home it will last a month, but i doubt it if i had a c&c cage

Don't want to burst your bubble but I am yet to litter train a piggie, they wee where they want :)) Maybe worth starting off with a 120cm cage then upgrading later on if you feel the need?

i see many people litter train there but doubt it will work with mine either

I've had no luck litter training my pigs, I think some naturally like to wee in one corner (my friend had one that did) whilst others go everywhere.

I have the skyline maxi and a c&c cage and the skyline is harder to clean then a c&c cage as you need to take it to pieces to get into the corners. I have a correx base in my c&c and its wipe clean and watertight, i have a play pen with a canvas floor and over time it will need reproofing. I made my own c&c cage its easy to do it all just clips together, the hardest part was getting the correx to size :)

They are the only two in my budget, but think the cavas bottom will be harder then the skyline to clean

You could always get the larger canvas cage and get a piece of Lino to fit the bottom, it's very cheap and will give you a wipeable surface.

I agree get an off cut of lino from you local carpet shop be about £10 and will make the base water tight of the canvas bottomed c&c. When said the mai is harder its because you have to take it to pieces to get into the corners, whereas the c&c you can get into :)

Hello,

I have the skyline maxi plus for when the piggys come in during the colder months. I line mine with a puppy pad at the bottom so the wee never actually touches the bottom of the cage then layer with newspaper and comfybed. When I want to wash it completely I hose it down. I really like it, fairly cheap and does the job. The only thing I would say about it is the top meshy part is not secured very well to the bottom plastic part, so if you wanted to lift it up and move it it might be a bit more tricky. We would slide ours across the floor.

In my experience, the C&C cage is far more user-friendly than a shop bought cage AND it's usually bigger for less money. Travis Perkins in Wolverton and Bletchley sell huge sheets of 2mm thick correx for about £8 each. It's not as robust as the 4mm stuff but it's what I've used to line my C&C cage with.

thanks that is handy to know as i live in Bletchley, could i order online, only problem with getting the c&c cage, i would either have to save up for 2 months to get one. or find somthing to line the canvas bottom one

why would you need to save up for two months? there are places where you can get the materials cheaply, i can look for you if you'd like

If you can afford a C&C in two months then I'd be inclined to wait and save up.

Whilst a 100cm cage is not the ideal it could be a lot worse. So many times I've bought cages and wished I'd got something else! A C&C is easy to clean but best of all it's adaptable. E.g for now I have sectioned off part of my big C&C so that Dumpling (just been neutered!) can be near the girls until he can go in with them in a few weeks. Then I hope to increase the overall size of the cage for the 5 of them.

because i cant find the materials near me and dont drive, I get £40 a month, and the ones i have seen are £70 with derlivery

Have you named your black girl yet?

I know i dont like them being in the cage but had no choice, rescued them and that is what they came in, going to see if can improvise and can see if can join somthing to the cage while i sort out the c&c cage. I want to make sure i get the right thing for them but also easy to adapt and move etc. I know i just need to look around for prices etc and work it all out. Hard to save up when flat also need things and hamster needs a new cage :/

To be honest with you I built 3 C&C cages for the price of a skyline maxi, keep an eye out for anyone in your area with the grids for sale or look on ebay. If you wanted to make the canvas bottom waterproof try a piece of lino, its waterproof and wipe clean and you can get a roll end for £10 from most carpet shops :)

I have not seen anywhere that cheap local, the skyline is £36 and grids for a 4x2 are £30 on ebay, and is the cheapest i have found

I got my grids off here, put a wanted ad in the items for sale/wanted section someone near you might have some. Even at £30 off ebay you could get a sheet of correx for between £6-8 so still could be within budget :)

Yes i am hoping the seller does not change the price, as seen to different prices from the same seller for the same object. I will be getting it next month or possibly thinking of getting the grids at the end of this month. But not sure yet

I think with some looking you could find cheap grids and even correx online, or the estate agents thing, when I built my c+c I couldnt drive to get supplies but it only cost me 20 pounds. You could get things sent to your address? :) i can have a look for you later, at my boyfriends atm. Although it will take a bit of looking it would be worth it as theyre cheap and easy to clean. If you dont want me to have a look no worries. (for twenty pounds i got free correx and second hand grids).

Yes thank you i would like you help. just message me later. Think i will be getting them next month. as is my birthday this month and will have the last of the money for me before i no longer see any of it lol as will go all on the pets. I love guinea pigs but they are not cheap.

I take it having a c&c cage will make it easier to clean and less dirty due to more space, as there pee and poo is everywhere despite spot cleaning, still looks really dirty :(. Just hoping i can litter train them

I know what you mean as have 'been there' myself. Just that I don't want you to spend the money on a cage you later regret buying. :) xx

Have done that so many times lol. Really my Ferplast 140 is now not needed and I would have been better building C&C from the start. Have meshed the Ferplast and moved my Syrian Hamster into it so that it is at least being used!
