New medication making piggy sleepy?

If she’s struggling with the CC it may be that she doesn’t like the taste, some piggies aren’t keen at all, so you could always try her with her pellets and syringe those if there’s just lots of mess and you’re worrying she’s not getting enough. Or I’ve used 50/50 CC and pellets too.
Hope she eats lots of hay for you on top of the syringed food.

My mom and I just gave here 5 mL's of Critical Care. This has been her third dose of the day.
It is about 1:00 a.m. here. I'll do anything for my piglets, though. :)

Have you checked out the video that I made? You were linked to it in an earlier post. It gives tips on how to syringe feed and you can see how far the syringe goes in the mouth. If your guinea pig isn't keen on Critical Care you can mush up their normal guinea pig nuggets.

So far she's had 15 mL's.

Thank you so much! :)
The video is amazing!
The only problem is that the vet gave me a massive syringe (10 mL). :)

See if you can buy some 1ml syringes on amazon, or ask the vet if they have any.

Update on Stubbins:
- She ate some pellets this morning and a little bit of hay.
- I noticed that she is acting really submissive around my other two. She went to go have some hay, and one of the rumbled at her. Normally this would be okay (sometimes Mo is cranky in the morning 🤣), but she ran away and hid, and would not come out.
- I am still syringe-feeding her as much as possible.
- She weighs the same as yesterday (maybe a little bit more).

I’m one of those who add a bit of mashed banana to the Critical Care. I was advised to do that by a vet for a piggy who had a post-op dip.
I have found that mine all love the added banana.
The Critical Care you have, apple & banana flavour, is very nice (according to my piggies).

Sorry you’re having such a worrying time.
Holding you in my heart

Thank you. :luv:

I have a quick, kind of urgent question.
I need to leave for the barn in about 10 minutes to take care of the horses. I am usually gone for 4-4/12 hours. What do I do about Stubbins?
The past couple of days have been very difficult. Stubbins sleeps all day in her hidey pocket and doesn't seem to be getting better. I am trying my best, but I think that I must be doing something wrong. :(

You aren’t doing anything wrong, recovery takes time.

Feed her before you go and then as soon as you get back

😥
Stubbins just bit me. :(
She has never done this before. I tried to syringe feed her without my mom's help, and she ended up scratching and biting me.
I don't blame her at all, it was not a great experience for both of us.
Normally, I have her on my mom's lap. While my mom holds her, I syringe.
My mom seemed overwhelmed, so I tried on my own. That was when she bit me. I am concerned that maybe I was holding her too tightly out of fear that she would jump out of my arms (I was sitting down).
My mom is coming to help now.

Did you manage to feed her with no further bites? I'm sure it was a one-off and I doubt you were holding her too tightly. She would have protested if you were.

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. It sounds like you are doing a really great job with her. We're all rooting for you and Stubbins!

Are you still in touch with the vet and is she progressing as they would expect?

Unfortunately, the vet is not in on Sundays or Mondays but we planned on talking over the phone tomorrow.
Stubbins is doing great, this morning, though! The day started off not so great, but just now, I found her snuggled in a pile of hay, munching away!

For 48 hours, Stubbins has been:
1. On Cisapride and Meloxicam.
2. Mostly syringe fed.
3. Been drinking and eating veggies.
4. Eating hay (but not enough)
5. Eating a few pellets
6. Sleeping most of the day
7. Having soft stools
I am calling the vet tomorrow for updates. Keeping our fingers crossed. 🤞
She has made a little bit of progress. At first, we syringe fed her eight times per day, but she is now maintaining her weight with only 3-4 sessions per day.
I love her so much and really want her to get better.
She has also been off of antibiotics since Saturday, and we actually haven't heard any sneezing!

If she is having soft stools, then take her off all fresh veg for 24-48 hours to give her guts time to rebalance and only give her the hay and syringe feed (she can also have the pellets). Antibiotics can upset their tummies.

Thank you for your support. :)
We have had a rough night with Stubbins.
She is having runny poop and still not eating enough hay.
My mom and I syringe fed her just now. We were planning of giving 6-7 mL's, but instead, Stubbins only ate 2. She is not willing to take the syringe food anymore, and she just doesn't seem "right". The major difference in her behavior that indicates that something is wrong is:
1. Sleeping more often.
2. Not spending as much time eating hay as usual.
3. Runny poop (even after being off veggies).
I am also a bit confused about the Cisapride medication. The vet said to feed her the medicine until "she was eating again".
My mom thinks that because she is eating (although not enough) that I should stop giving her the medicine. I am really unsure, but a part of me thinks that the medication is causing the runny stool.
I really just want her to get better. 😖

Keep her off veg until poops normalise (she could be off veg for many days) and don’t reintroduce veg until poops are back to normal. While there is any gut imbalance, giving her veg will only exacerbate the problem.
I think you need to go back to the vet though if you are seeing a worsening

I would keep going with the Cisapride until after you've seen the vet.
