Hey,
I bought the guinea pig two and a half weeks ago .....
Can I already get the blanket out of the cage for them?

Do you mean the blanket we told you to put over the top of the cage? If so, then yes, you can remove it as your piggy is hopefully feeling a little more secure by now

Yes go ahead and remove it then and just keep an eye on them to ensure they are comfortable
Have you been able to get things sorted for the Male piggy to be separated from her and look to having him neutered?

They are very scared.
I talked to the vet, he said castration can only be done from age three months.
The castration is very expensive, but we will do it for another two weeks.
(Castration cost NIS 400)

But as I mentioned, they are very cowards, but eat lots!

Yes they will be scared, it can really take a long time for them to settle down.

Hey,
I have a few questions:
1. Are they allowed to eat cherry tomatoes?
2. How many cucumbers to give them? Unlimited?
Thank you and Shabbat Shalom!

I got them on 2 May.
it is my birthday.
What the problem?

When you asked about them still being shy you said you'd had them 2 and a half weeks. Yet you'd actually only had them 12 days. So it's still very early days. You shouldn't rush them. You potentially will have them for years, let them settle in their own time.

OK
can you ask me on the first question?

They will eat cherry tomatoes, but don't feed them often and not in big amounts because the acid in the tomatoes can make their mouths sore.
Cucumber can be fed every day but I wouldn't feed it unlimited. Just a few pieces each day

Is it okay to put a fan close to the cage?
The temperature in Israel is 30 degrees now ...669d9359-2139-4a49-8663-5f4235090643.webp

Someone with more knowledge about this will be along soon. I'll leave it for them to answer.

My pigs are outdoors. And they love their cucumber! They tell me its quite refreshing and quenches their thirst! 😊

Can anyone please answer?
The temperature can be fatal for them!

Please be patient, we do this voluntarily and not all members are available all the time.

Please do not point the fan directly at the piggies, this can make them ill.

Please also don’t be tempted to overfeed watery veg due to hot weather. Feed them normally and ensure they have fresh water, it may need changing more regularly during the day.

This guide gives information on how to keep them cool

When we had a really hot summer a few years ago I wrapped freezer blocks in towels and put them in the cage to help keep them cool.
Some people filled water bottles and froze them which had the same effect.

I tried.
It wet all the sawdust.
post Scriptum
Is that a good sawdust?

I can’t remember what is said but it’s not good if it clumps.
