Love the cage set up! I have my girls in a 5 x 2 on a table and I have been trying to work out how to fit another cage in for when I adopt more in the future and this looks great!

I use Fitch and absolutely love it! I researched ALOT before I adopted my piggies over a year ago, I gave Fitch a go and I will never use anything else now. Tried Carefresh once when I had run out of Fitch and I wasn't keen on it, I can't quite remember why - I think it wasn't as soft and the bits were smaller, also it didn't work out to be anywhere near as good value for money. Tried Finacard once just to compare but but it wasn't as absorbent or as soft as fitch. Tried megazorb and absolutely hated it! SO dusty and it got everywhere, made such a mess of the carpet!

100% recommend Fitch! :D

Also those of you who are using fitch, do you still use newspaper/puppy pads underneath as you would with hay, shavings, etc. Thanks :)

I still use newspaper under it but just to protect the base of the cage but it's not really necessary.

I like fitch, mainly because it doesn't catch onto fabric the way shavings do and it's absorbent and doesn't smell after a couple of days like fleece. So if anyone is thinking of switching I'd recommend it, one bag lasts quite a while as well.

Forgot to answer the question - I don't use anything under the fitch, like gwinnypiggylove says, there's no harm in using it to protect the base. I find spot cleans and big cleans easier without it as I take out as much or as little fitch as I need to without any paper underneath to have to take out as well.

I agree - the only smell from the piggies cage is the hay, the fitch never smells and it is super absorbent.

No don't use anything underneath. Fitch is very clean and dry. My cage is a year old and its bottom still doesn't have any wee stain marks on. Fitch sucks up the wee really well. And it the easiest bedding to clean. If you used paper or pads you would just be making it harder to clean and waisting money on pads. I've tried shaving, fleece, bliss and Fitch is the cleanest, easiest, and cheepest. Only one down side you have to order it online

I'm still loving Fitch and would never change back! Every pet is on it now & Niles, my bun with long term respiratory problems, hasn't sneezed once! It does a great job of absorbing wee and doesn't smell at all. I don't put anything else underneath it, I've not found that I've needed to really. I'm just about to order my third bag, so we're going through it a lot slower than the woodshavings. I would 100% recommend it. I think it's brilliant! wish I'd changed over earlier x

You could sew a channel on an old duvet cover and thread cord or something through to secure it shut. Before I got my horse bag tied a duvet cover but it came undone in the washer.

I think the only reason I still use newspaper underneath is because the base used to get stained when I used wood shavings, so using it with fitch is just a habit but it's not needed.

Thank you everyone for replying. You've done a good job at selling fitch to me! My piggies are now inside in a temp indoor set up made with the sides of their pen whilst I await the arrival of their c&c and fitch. I bought a small bag of the natural brown carefresh to use in the meantime while my fitch arrives and it is doing a good job at soaking up the wee but doesn't feel very soft so I am pleased fitch is softer. Also, I don't know about it being 'dust free' - it's full of dust when you take it out the bag! I just hope fitch isn't the same. Will post pics of their new home when it's set up. I have lots of cosies and toys just sitting here waiting! I'm so excited!
The guy I am ordering my correx from has asked me what size I want it scoring to. On the candcguineapigcages website it says a 5x3 cage assembled is 185cm x 77cm - is that the size I tell him? He also asked how high I want the sides of the correx. Any ideas please? Thanks.

Just found this post and I'm ordering the Fitch today for my 2 cute little boars. New on this site and been a very happy guinea mummy for 3 months. I think this is great for sharing ideas. Can I use the Fitch on an outdoor cage. Making my boys a big connecting outdoor run as well so it would be lovely to have the Fitch fleece for them to be cosy.

I'm fitch convert too and my piggies seem to love it!

I've just got 8 bales of it delivered however i do use newspaper underneath but that's my personal preference.

My favourite things about it are, it doesn't smell, it's really soft and not dusty, and it's easy to sweep up when the piggies kick out their cages. I had trialed several things before hand but this is by far the best.

Like others have said i won't use any other bedding now!

:)

You can use it for outdoor cages/hutches, I'm sure your piggies will love it! :)

What a lovely cage setup! After seeing this I'm thinking of using fitch in my boys 'kitchen' which is upstairs but they drag the shavings downstairs and it's a right pain to try and sweep up off the fleece!
