Is there something under the throws for the wee to be absorbed into and away from the surface?

We do not recommend home treating. Because you can’t know what is right. Also bear in mind that the medicines sold in pet shops are usually not the correct strength. With the broken teeth and that hair loss, and bumble foot, I would really plead with your mum to have her seen. Is there a way you could ask her to take her and you maybe forfeit your pocket money to pay for the vet fees?

Are you weighing her daily to keep track? I would stop the vitamin c liquid and give her veg rich in vitamin c - coriander (in particular) and bell peppers are very good ones. Did you say she has soft poop? If so maybe do just coriander and see.

Is it the vet who said she had calcium deficiency?

I'm 19 without a job, i dont get pocket money lol,

Under the throw is a cooling pad cos my room can sometimes get hot and under that is clean, not even touched with a drop wood pellets

The vet gave me 5 medications in total, but because shes so small they reccomended me to cut them down, she gets melon, peppers, dill, cucumber, pea flake, mini carrots, strawberries, spinach, bananna and orange (obvs not all at once) but trying differnet combos so she doesnt get bored

Weighing her before and after food, and then again 6 hours later (i have a book for her)

Her teeth got seen on monday and one was filed down since it was way too long, vet reccomended to keep it longer than the others so she could eat whole foods by herself and since then has been eating fine by herself and let me give her syringe fed critical care, osteocare and baby food (if she needs it)

Her poop changes a lot tbh, sometimes its TINY and all grouped together, sometimes its normal size and etc etc.

Vet told me MULTIPLE things that could be wrong with her

Respiratory infection
Vitamin c def
Scurvy
Calcium def
Birth defect

Very confused lol, went to Radlett vets who specialise in guinea pigs and they reccomended me to put her down, not gone back since

There seems to be a lot of fruits offered and not much veg. Fruits should be an occasional treat and not an everyday thing. If her poop is soft then you need to be cutting out all veg until they are properly formed for at least 24 hours. 💩 output is 1-2 days behind input. Have a look at the feeding guide I’ve linked below. They generally don’t get bored so it’s fine to feed the same thing day in day out.
Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets

Have to sleep but keep working on your mum. She really needs to be seen by an experienced vet, before it’s too late. The vets on the list linked to earlier are tried and tested by slaves on here.

PS weighing once. Day should be enough. I would do before food. Is she getting pellets as well?

PPS please be careful about what you watch online, some of the advise is incorrect and can do more harm than good.

I’ll check in the morning to see if you’ve made my progress re getting her to a vet.

I suspect that your guinea pig has a heart condition.

In which case, your guinea pig will require intensive treatment from a cavy savvy veterinarian if she is to survive.

Thats kinda a bold statement to just come out with, what makes you think that if i can ask? Just so if i do end up going vets tomorrow i can say why

She needs the syringe feeds very regularly, day and night, to keep her system going. This is of utmost importance right now.

@Siikibam is right, she is being fed far too much fruit. It is too high in sugar and not good for piggies in such large quantities. It should be a very occasional treat and only in a tiny amount. Guinea pigs need over 80% of their daily food intake to be hay. She needs to be fed vit c rich foods such as coriander and bell peppers. Please read the long term diet link which siikibam added above.

However, you say she now has soft poops. She needs to be taken off fresh food and just fed hay and her support feeds, to get her gut to rebalance.

Most importantly, she needs to see a knowledgeable vet. She has many issues, none of which you are going to be able to make better without the correct diagnosis and treatment.

You say she is on five medications - what is she actually taking?

Other than your guinea pig appearing to be somewhat pale. . . The crusty ears, and problems with the feet suggest that there is an issue with your guinea pig's circulation/heart.

Only a vet can determine that. All of these issues can be caused by many other things as well. Bumblefoot is a bacterial infection. Crusty ears and losing balance could suggest a neurological issue or ear infection etc. None of which are always circulatory.

Hence, why I said that I suspect.

With over 20-years of experience with guinea pigs, I would want to explore a potential heart issue in a reasonably young guinea pig with crusty ears, and pododermatitis (Bumblefoot), both of which can be indicative of heart/circulatory issues.

I agree, whatever is going on here is serious and your guinea pig is not going to be miraculously cured by any home treatment and is not going to be helped by a group of forum members desperately guessing and trying to help. At the end of the day, this is quite distressing for forum members - we can see clearly that your piggy is desperately in need of urgent vet care to stand any chance of survival.

I’m sorry but without more information I cannot offer much in the way of medical advice on your little piggies case. She looks very poorly and potentially looking at multiple issues to work with. Right now thickly made syringe feed will help her the most to support her. I strongly advise looking for an exotic vet as there are several thing that can be done here but without a vet to diagnose and treat them then unfortunately cannot help. Please have your piggie referred to a specialist by your vet for some more advanced care. One of the following is likely to be the closest to you:
- C J Hall Veterinary Surgeons (Richmond, London)
- Exotic pet vet services (Camden, London)
- Scott Veterinary Clinic | Vets in Bedford (Bedford)
- WHVC - Vets in Buckinghamshire (Buckinghamshire)

Please have your little one referred to one of these ASAP for further treatment.

Hi, I'm new on here but i seriously need help as my vets are useless, my guinea pig is Honey and she'll be 2 on Januray 2020

She started being the smallest out the group and we thought jt was normal but then she started losing weight because her sister was stealing all her food, we noticed and i segregated her for meal times so they could each have their own meal

About 10 months later, shes dropping weight, has sneezing and trouble squeaking, i take her to the vet, respiratory problems, we get medication, she takes it and she gets better

Then, shes losing weight even more, getting to as low as 432g, her ears get crusty and she has episodes where she cant walk, falls onto her side and basically has a seizure

We take her to vets, we get a specialist in, we give her extra vitamin C, the seizures stop

Fastforward about 4 months

Shes going from 515g to 470g overnight, her teeth chipped and even 1 fell out completely, she has scabs and red circle blothches on her feet, they swelled and when i squeezed it SLIGHTLY, puss came out, her hair is falling out on her stomach and around her eyes, her back legs have been dragging and now she cant even hold her front up because her paws hurt her so bad,

Ive been giving her:

Critical care
Pro C vitamin powder
Vitamin C liquid
100% nature oats
100% fibre powder
Lactos free baby milk

And then on the side, antibiotics and osteocare

Shes shown sides of her back legs getting better but even after disinfecting everything, her paws are still hurting her like hell and she cant even lift her head to get water

My vet reccomended me to put her down but I'm gonna fight with her and i know i can hel

Pictures below IN ORDER:

How she sits
Her front paws (graphic)
Her back paws
Her teeth
Hair loss around eyes
Hair loss on stomach
The stuff i give her daily

If anyone can give me some advice on ANYTHING id honestly appreciate it so so much, I'm out of ideas
Please nobody reply to this, she died this morning, not by anything medical, the full water bottle she has fell on her head and i wasnt awake to help

I feel horrible.......

Sorry for your loss. Please don’t feel guilty as I don’t think it was the bottle that did it, so to speak.
