Title. My Bercy loves chew toys a little too much. I’ve removed them from the cage for the time being because I don’t want him to hurt his tummy. If I buy him a new chew, he will plop his butt down and spend however long it takes trying to devour the entire thing (I always remove it before he’s able, but I’ve given up on trying to test the waters). I’ve invested in more tunnels, hides, a hammock etc. for enrichment purposes, but I’m just wondering if anyone else has ever had this issue? Any extra ideas on non-edible enrichment? I feel so guilty leaving him without his toys. I know chews are supposed to be natural/organic/edible, and I only buy them as such (oxbow or handmade by small businesses), but I’m assuming not all at once lol.

Edit - he always has plenty of hay and is constantly well fed. He will ditch the hay bin to go eat a ball.

hiya, what a little chewer! What are the toys made of he is nomming?

Hi

Have a look at this link here for inspiration - it looks at enrichment in many forms and for all senses. You may find it stimulating for working out your own interaction with your boy and what he reacts to; allow your phantasy free reign.

PS: Piggies can have quite a destructive streak and some really love to gnaw on wood. Some of the ideas take the fun that piggies have in wrecking into account by making them work to get at their dinner or at hay.

Hello, I usually opt for willow, grass, timothy, or occasionally wood!

Thank you so much!

Guinea pigs can be furry demolition machines.
Mine can go through a carrot cottage easily.
A strong paper bag filled with hay lasts about 5 days.
A sea grass house loses the ability to stay up in a day.

As long as Bercy has plenty of hay, a good diet and the toys are safe then don’t worry, he’s having fun.
