I woke up this morning to find Monty's leg is bleeding, Milo is in full hormone spike and really trying to mount him, Milo has these spikes every month or so they don' t last for very long, about a couple of hours and then they go back to being best buddies. This morning is different Monty seems to be hiding, he is very subdued and Milo keeps trying to mount him usually Monty tells him off and all is good, they have never had a fight. I took Monty out of the cage and noticed his leg has got some blood on it but noticed he is biting his own back legs, he does have arthritis in his back legs which he has Loxicom for dogs 0.4 twice a day which he loves. I am really worried that there bond is truly broken, they have been together for a year with us and about eight months before we rehomed them. i am so scared that we will need to rehome Milo as we have no room for two cages and Monty is the older and got health issues.
I have a vets appointment booked for 12pm to look at Monty's leg.
Has anyone had boys fall out after nearly two years together Milo is about 3 years old and Monty is about 4 to 5 years old.
Thank you

I really hope it’s his arthritis that’s causing him trouble and not a fight. It’s my biggest worry too that my boys will fall out. Good luck at the vets. I hope Milo calms down soon.

I can’t really give advice but I just wanted to offer support - poor Monty.
I’m hoping their bond is not broken just a little tiff 🥰
Sending healing vibes for Monty

Hi

All the best for Monty's leg.

As to the boys: Give them a trial separation for two days to allow tempers to cool down, then do a formal re-intro on neutral ground. If the bond is broken, this will manifest pretty quickly within a quarter of an hour. The bond is still viable, then they will go back together as if nothing has happened.
Bonds In Trouble
Fall-outs in adult boars are not as common but like with fall-outs between sows they can happen. Guinea pig groupings, like human marriages are dynamic social concepts; they are not a static happy ever after. An illness, a loss or a weakening in the leader can create the need for challenge/change in leadership. Underlying rifts or old grudges can also make a reappearance.

Finger crossed for your two boys!

Thank you for your replies.
Just got back from the vets, she started washing Monty's back leg and there was only a tiny little mark so she started looking for where the blood was coming from and said the blood in his carrier case was mixed with wee, on closer look it was coming from his willy. The vet gave antibiotics - Enrobactin oral solution 0.28 twice daily, Monty is already on Loxicom twice daily for his arthritis in his back legs. I am picking up some probiotics in the morning as they had none in today. If things don't improve overnight they said it could be stones and they can do an X-ray while Monty is still awake. At the moment both boys are laid on a fleece pad cuddled up together munching on hay. My anxiety is through the roof.

🤞Gish so sorry you are feeling so stressed, I’m not surprised. Hope Monty starts to recover really quickly and it’s just a UTI 🤞

I hope that it is just UTI.

Thank you everyone.
Monty seemed to get worse this afternoon so took him back to see the vets at 6pm, he had started making jerky type of movements, they felt his tummy and could feel no stones but will look for them if he hasn't picked up in the next couple of days, he gave him a couple of injections Dexadeson and Buprelieve.
I don't understand how it came on so quickly he was eating really well and laid on cream fleece yesterday there was no blood, there has been a lot of blood today and its bright red as if you had cut yourself. Monty is really uncomfortable and is not moving in his cage and not eating so managed to get some critical care and probiotics so are trying to get them into him.
I had to separate the boys in the end as Milo kept jumping on Monty and poking his bottom, Monty was getting really stressed, so got two big cages in the dining room now, who needs a dining table anyway.

Gosh I hope Monty recovers asap poor boy.
You did the right thing in returning to the vet.
And separating the boys - Monty needs to get better ❤️

Poor Monty. I hope the medicine works and he’s soon on the mend 🤞🏻

Thank you, I hope so, some times i feel like i don't know what to do when the piggies are poorly, love them both so much. Monty is not eating on his own so been syringe feeding him throughout the night, he only takes a small amount at a time.

Poor Monty, I hope you can find out what‘s wrong very soon but hang in there, you are doing a great job with the syringe feeding x

You are doing a great job - hopefully Monty will be a little bit better today
We’re here for you as it can be overwhelming with a poorly piggy 🥰

Monty is getting worse, i have been syringe feeding throughout the night about every two to three hours but Monty is taking less and less all the time, he is now just holding food in his mouth. He stopped bleeding late yesterday and has done a few poos. Every time i put him back in the cage he just sits in the corner with his back to me. I want to get him to the vets but my husband says he is quietly passing away. I'm heartbroken and don't know what to do. Thank you

I’m sorry to hear this, there is a chance he may be ready to pass.
If he is not swallowing then it is quite a big sign he is ready to go.
I am not aware of what he is actually sick from but just from this information there is a chance he is ready to go.

I would recommend just keeping him as comfortable as possible, but getting to a vet would be great.
You can help by keeping the room warm, not hot, and just keeping it quiet.

My thoughts are with you x

I would take him to the vet to get advice as soon as possible.
It might not be time to let him go yet,
but if you really think he's passing then you might just be better to let him pass peacefully in his cage,
I wish the best for you and monty

I’m so sorry. Not swallowing is a worrying sign. It really would be best to get him to a vet.
Sending hugs

I am very sorry 😞 Sadly once they lose the ability to swallow, it’s usually a sign they are getting ready to pass. I would get him to the vet for them to help him. Sadly they rarely pass way peacefully at home x

Sorry i should have added it to Monty's leg is bleeding post.
Monty had been to the vets twice on Friday and seemed to pick up a little yesterday, we took him to the veterinary hospital earlier today, they x-ray him and found a mass in his tummy, they are struggling to keep his temperature up as it keep dropping and he not very well at all.
they have said he probably will not make it through the night.

I’m so sorry Monty is so unwell. Sending healing vibes to him ❤️ and a hug to you 🤗
