Mites? What to do!?

Thank you I'll get them as soon as I can.

Everything went great with the vet and other than the mites the guinea pigs are in great shape! Chip and Oreo are on Revolution for dogs and antibiotics! They are really happen and can't wait to see improvement; although I have 1 question... We just got back from the vet so should we clean out there cage and disinfect it or no need?

It would recommend to give your cage a deep clean. Did your vet say whether you are dealing with mange mites or hay mites?

And did they tell you that you need two more rounds to clear out the mites?

They didn't tell us those things...

Not much just to use it once a month; it revolution

Sorry I don't want to say where the area is I live

Kentucky united States

I’d check with the vet as you don’t normally treat mites by doing one treatment every month - did he tell you how many months he expected you to treat for?
It’s normally a course of 3 treatments over several weeks with a couple of weeks interval between each treatment to ensure all the mites are killed, and then treatment is stopped once they’ve all gone.

Ok they said for 3 months I think.

How far apart will the applications be?

If I’m not mistaken the treatments should be two weeks apart. Can someone confirm please?

that’s my understanding in general but I don’t know about revolution specifically (I think it’s called stronghold in the uk).

It really sounds far too long between each treatment. the treatment will only kill the current mites, any eggs won’t be killed by it so if the next treatment is too long away you just don’t break the cycle

Is the vet experienced in caring for guinea pigs? If not I’d look at the lost I posted the link to and see another. The other point is they didn’t tell you whether it was hay or mange mites you were dealing with...It’s up to you but I’d consider trying to get a second opinion.

Yes the vet has experience treating and helping guinea pigs

How much revolution did they give you and what does it say on the box/prescription? Prescriptions here tell you how often it should be used.

They didn't give us any but they did prescribed it

So they prescribed it but then you’ve got to go and buy it yourself from somewhere else?

Yeah I'm pretty sure... This was my first visit to any vet for my guinea pigs

So you haven’t actually got any treatment there yet? You said they prescribed revolution and antibiotics on your previous post - did they give you antibiotics?

So you got the antibiotics at home with you right now but not the revolution?
Sorry just trying to clarify exactly what you’ve been told!

Yeah the antibiotics are baytril

Ok, so when are you going to get the revolution?
Read on the box what it says but clarify everything with a vet,

Ok... I don't know when
