Minky's got a Head Tilt.

Well, she's a lot better. Not fully back to normal but only a slight head tilt. She went to the vets just over a fortnight ago on October 24th & Dominika said to take her off the Loxicom but keep on with the Baytril & bring her back in 4 weeks. She really hadn't improved but was healthy in every other way & had put weight on. The following day I had her out on the floor with Minnie & Mitch & she coped well with them being very bossy. I decided to put her back in the run with the other 4 & she coped very well apart from not been able to jump up to the middle level so put plenty of food downstairs for her. On the Sunday, clean-out day I took the middle level out & put the ramps back in that go straight to the top level. I was also introducing my latest addition Rex who I've fostered for 8 weeks & decided to give him a forever home. As he didn't seem to get on with Mother & Mousey we put Mitch in the right hand side of the run with them & Rex went in the left with Minky & Minnie with a divider down the middle. Since then Minky has gone from strength to strength & she's back to eating out of normal bowls & drinking out of the water bottle. She handles the ramp with ease & her head tilt is only very slight & often not noticeable at all. She still on 0.5ml of Baytril twice a day but I think Dominika may take her off that when she sees her in 12 days. After the first 4 weeks I was beginning to think she'd never get better but the last 2 weeks have seen a transformation.

Just keeping fingers crossed that that's the end of her ills for a long time.

It is great to hear she is coping so well. I wonder why the head tilt is not going.

Glad to hear that she is going from strength to strength, hope she continues to do so. Keep a very close eye on her though, I don't want to scare you but Ruby's head tilt returned, but this maybe because she only had meds for a shorter period of time. Hopefully Minky should be ok as she has been on them for quite along time now.
Really pleased with Minky's progress though, I bet you are. This head tilt is a strange affair though and it makes you wonder just what it is.

I got a prescription from my vet & got a 100ml bottle of Baytril from Vet UK so have enough for over 3 months. The tilt is very little now but if there's any doubt I'll ask Dominika if I can continue with the Baytril. I wouldn't want to stop it until she is 100% OK.

Don't blame you, you got a good deal on the Baytril, saved you a fortune in the long run.

I'd recommend it to anyone with long term ill piggies that need constant meds. A saving of £50 for 100 days worth of meds is definitely worthwhile. I don't have insurance so have to save where I can.

Did you just ask your vet for a prescription or did you have to physically go and see them first? Very interesting.

I'd already got a 10ml container of Baytril from the vets & it was nearly gone so needed more so I asked if I could have a prescription to get a 100ml bottle as this could be a long illness. The saving is big. e.g. my vet's charge £9.46 for 10ml. If you buy from Vet UK it's £20.28 for 100ml bottle plus my vet charges £7.50 for the prescription making total of £27.58 + postage of about £3 unless you're spending over £30. So for 100ml instead of paying £94.60 I'm saving over £65. Minky has been prescribed 0.5ml twice a day so a bottle is just 100 days supply. The bottle I got has a Sept 2015 use by date so it will be OK to use for quite a while if it's not all used on Minky this time. What I do to avoid contamination is use the small containers that the vets supply & put about a weeks supply in.

So really you'd have to see the vet first unless it was a long term thing where your piggy was already on Baytril.
