Aww Flintstones, bless you. Big hugs. I really didn't realise it was this bad (as explained my hamster lived to a very good age, but he was a hamster and not a piggie!) You have done the absolute best you can so far for little Milo and i'm sure you will continue to make all the right decisions for him. He's lucky to have such a good slave like you looking out for him. :rose x

Hamster's tend to get Cushings - in old age. With them having such a short life expectancy and being so small there's nothing that can be done. They then die - of old age.

Cushings causes other problems if left untreated - as Milo is so young left untreated the Cushings would affect him. Had he been older it would have made more sense. We can only do our best and I know if I was told I was 99.5% likely to have cushings I would opt for treatment.

ohhhhhhhhhhhh :(
i read cushings and thought.....hammies? .....
i will do a search myself (so i can understand) but i know you too well.....you will have exhausted the web XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I can only wish you and our dear darling little Milo all the very best xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Dearest Milo wheeeeeeeeeeeee loves you XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

HUGS for you love XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Really sorry to hear this, must be awful not knowing exactly what your dealing with, with it be so uncommon. I hope Milo's treatment goes well.
Hugs to you and Milo x

Thanks everyone for the support. Yesterday wasn't a good day for me although I expected the worse when it was confirmed it still made a huge impact on me.

Milo will be moving with Esme to the top cage where I can keep a better eye on him for preparation of when he starts treatment means my family will also be able to check on him.

Feeling much more positive, Milo's a little fighter. xoxo

I have everything crossed too, i hope all goes well on Tuesday & Milo starts to feel better real soon :)

So sorry to hear Milo is poorly, be strong handsome boy, you are in the best possible hands and Esme will be by your side xxxxxxxx

Best wishes for your little Milo.

Wow, Guinea Pigs can get Cushings disease? I thought only humans could get it and then it is rare.

Is there any known treatment or therapy for guinea pigs with this?

Yes there is a treatment. Dogs, cats, humans, hamsters and horses can also get the disease.

So sorry to here that Milo has cushings disease, but at least you now have a diagnosis and you can start treatment.

Hugs to you and Milo x

We made a very interesting discovery - in fact it's quite sad that no Lab in UK actually knows what a Guinea Pig Cortisol level should be. Yes Milo's level is very high but not compared to a 'Normal' Guinea Pig. This means that Milo could be normal, as no one know's the answer.

The ultra sound came back inconclusive

Based on the above findings I have decided not to treat Milo the risks are to great. I'll just enjoy each day with Milo and should his life be short then at least it will be a happy one! xx>>>

Milo is doing brilliant. I'm still monitoring him but I can honestly say I'm not worried about him in fact next weigh in I suspect he will be above the 900 grams mark! :o

Glad I decided against medication and if he goes downhill again I'll review my decision but so far so good. :)!

Oh no. I'm so so sorry for you and Milo. That sounds horrible. I really feel for you and poor Milo - he never has things easy does he? I only hope it can be treated and managed and that he can lead a better life now that he's been diagnosed more clearly.

All our love to you both x

woooooooooooo hoooooooooooooooooooooooo
well done Milo! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

LOTS OF LOVING HEALING WHEEEEEEEEEEEEKS FROM US ALL XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Just saw this thread!

Literally just came back from the vets and they have also suggested cushings disease for William!

The vet we saw today was not the usual one - he said that there was a nurse who had a piggie with cushings disease last year who had treatment and survived.

We've got to get William to wee on cotton wool and take the sample down for testing, if that's inconclusive, then it's another blood test rolleyes

Typical William!

I don't know how the vet diagnosed cushings by a urine sample there is no base level for cortisol in Guinea Pigs in the UK.

Has William had blood works yet to check the kidney, liver etc?

Not taken the urine yet! The cushings has just been a suggestion.

William's NOT had full bloodworks yet as we've been trying to narrow it down enough to try and avoid putting him through this as he is very underweight.

We're going to give urine, then try a very short nail clipping - which the vet suggested (Yippeeee! Not too much stress for William.) instead of trying to get blood from his scruff bit behind his ears again.

It's basically running the tests again and see if anything has changed/if he sees something that may have been missed. He went back over William's notes and test results too.

Sorry to hear Milo has cushings disease, I hope that the treatment works for the little guy and he lives a long and happy life. You have found a very good vet by the sounds of things and they will hopefully help Milo through this.
