can anyon xplain th symptoms of mang ? I rhom a piggy 3 wks ago an th ownr tol m toay sh took him to th vt bcaus h ha som sort of woun unr his chin an his ars ar ry an flaky. H has injct th poor w mit twic an h has antibiotics to tak. This piggys parnts hav no symtoms or vr ha mng. Non of th othr babis hav it ithr :-\ I tol hr to gt an antifungal cram for his ars, but I'm not sur about mng. Surly som of th othr piggis woul hav it too :-\ any hlp woul b apprciat. I'm not too sur about this vt's iagnosis.

just had a quick read on this. Apparently signs are of thinning coat, dandruff and itching. Areas of flakiness and dryness occuring firstly on the groin.. piggies will scratch and bite causing wounds. They are greasy and go yellowy.

Apparently too, they can have it for years with no symptoms.

Sure the piggie didn't have mites? They can get them through stress?

mmm don't know about mites. He is only 8 wks old. His brother has flakey ears but no wound like marks on his body. The girl put him in with her other boar about 7 months old and they have been together for 3 weeks now and her other boar is fine. Do you think it could be mites rather than menge then

I would say yes.. Mites are a funny thing. With my boys, although they shared a cage, one would get them without the other.. Jin (my past boy) would get flaky ears with his, and was due to stress as at the time he had a bad abcess on his back.

I have no experience of mange, but would be likely to say it's mites.

for mange you can get shampoos and creams from gorgouse guineas, the skin is dry flaky and scurfy and annoys them,I believe going on gorgouse guineas website will show you anything you need to know,

My piggies have had mites only once and that was due to stress through illness and 3 week stay at vets.

Do you mean you got two injections of Ivomec? (Mange/Mite treatment)

The crusty, flakey ears probably isn't to do the mange. Could be related to a ear infection which if not treated, could later cause head tilt. Or it could be Ear mites, ask the owner if the piggy has any of the symptoms listed on this page - http://www.guinealynx.info/earmites.html

How old is the piggy? Is he living with any other piggies?

EDIT: Just read your other post. Since he is living with someone, seperate them and put the piggy in Quarentine until it has gone away for sure. If you don't, the other piggies are sure to get it. You might want to get the vet to put some Ivomec behind their ears (Ask him to treat the piggies living with the pig)
 
It is probably too late to split the pig from his friend now - if they have been together the second pig will have been exposed to whatever skiin problem the first little pig has.

Personally I would be treating the pig with the original or Mankua honey oil soak and shampoo from gorgeous guineas as it sounds a bit like early fungal to me but this treatment will also help with parasites etc.

The pig he is sharing with should also be treated just to be on the safe side.

Please keep us updated on his progress.
