Hello, I have realised there is a lump which feels like a cyst on the top of my piggys head it's sore for her when I touch it.

I can't see it as she has long hair.

The past couple of weeks her weight has been a little down.

She's running around and eating as normal.

I’m sorry to hear this.
Keep a daily check on her weight for now so you can step in if needed and have the lump checked by a vet.

How much weight has she lost?

We have a vets app on Friday. She's very happy bouncing around like nothing is wrong do I'm curious what it is. It's right on the top of her little head!

Poor Rusty had to have her head shaved ....she looks like a bald piggy.

The vet stuck a needle in the lump and said no infection came out.

She gave her some anti inflammatory and said maybe it was a bump on the head?

My question is I noticed this bump early this week surely if it was a bump ot qould have gone down a little and its still there exactly the same on top of her head.

Good news that it’s not an abscess. I really have no idea about the speed at which swelling would subside but if it is inflammation then the rheumocam should help. Have you got a follow up appointment?

My little work buddy. Her lump still hasn't gone. She's still got three days of the anti inflammation left and another vets app on Monday!

I think it might be an abcess seems slightly bigger now but it's hard to tell.

Back to the vets again today as lump was still there. Poor thing had another needle stuck in the lump this time white liquid came out so was prescribed antibiotics. Another £60 for vet visit and meds. Been advised of ot doesn't settle in a week will have to have an op which will costs £120.

Love Rusty to death but is costing me a fortune.

Slightly annoyed I wasn't prescribed antibiotics when I went last week and was only given anti inflammation because it didn't work and have now paid double 🙄 😒

No she didn't mention anything about flushing it out. I only have the meds.

Tbh the vet I saw just could tell doesn't deal with guinea pigs she was scared rusty was going to bite when she first picked her up and she's soft as anything!

They've just said if it foesnt clear she has to have the op.

It's strange she's eating and bouncing around like normal just with a giant lump on her head

After almost a week of more anti inflammatory and antibiotics I woke up to a very gooey rusty! Her abcess popped poor thing.

We cleaned her up and got some of the goo out which she was not impressed about. It now doesn't look like it it full of gunk but is bleeding :(.

Anyway she's back at the vets again tomorrow. 3rd time in two weeks (costing me a fortune!)

Pics attached After I have got rid of some of the goo. I suppose a little bleeding is better than infection.

She's eating, drinking and pooping so generally we'll in herself apart from her sore head!

I'm hoping the vet cleans it up properly tomorrow and it doesn't come back!

Aw poor little lady. Can you ask to see a vet that’s got more experience, she doesn’t sounds very savvy at all from your post. An abscess is an abscess whatever the animal and scared of a Guinea pig? Well really 🙄

Hope the meds help but it probably needs flushing?

Yeh I'm going with my partner tomorrow and going to ask about getting it flushed/cleaned etc. This is the third time we will have been back now. Fingers crossed!

So sorry, I hope you get a more experienced vet this time and they can get her on the road to recovery 🤞

The vet was happy with her head and said it looked a lot better now it has burst.

She said Rusty weights 860g and has gained 10g since she was last seen.

Just a query re med amounts what do people think....

0.4ml of rhemocam once a day for 14 days.

And 0.7ml baytril once a day for 14 days.

Thanks !

I'd be grateful for a response to the above if anyone is able. Many thanks.

When my Pepper had his tooth root abscess he was 1.2kg and was on 0.5ml of Baytril for two weeks. It didn’t help the abscess at all. 🙄. That’s all I can help with sorry.

From my experience metacam/rheumacam is always better given twice a day. Piggies have a super fast metabolism and once a day can often leave them a period of time with no pain relief cover.
Dose wise I can't advise sorry!

Sorry can’t advise on Baytril. My Ted was 1.3 kg and given 0.4/0.5 ml twice a day for post dental spur filing
