Glad he’s doing ok. I’ve never see a cast for a piggy. If you could would you mind posting a picture of it! Just super interested 😀
thank you! Of course I don’t mind, this is best photo I have at the minute without disturbing him, it’s when I picked up him from the vets so he looks a little spaced out from all of the pain meds bless him😭

Thank you. Bless him. Hope it works. It’s amazing what can be done to help nowadays. 😃

Just seen this. My Timmy (in my profile pic) was a rescue who had a badly broken leg when he was found in a hoarding situation. He had had no treatment but the bone had set itself. He has a strange feeling back leg because of how it healed, it’s very lumpy, but you can only tell if you look. Otherwise he has used it fine over the years. He’s about 7 now and blind and deaf, the last of his issues is his leg! Good luck, hope your little one heals fine too.

I’m happy to hear Timmy has been able to live a happy life! That gives me lots of faith so thank you☺️

Hello! Milton is back at the Vets this Saturday to have his cast taken off and replaced with a fresh one. This is mainly to make sure the leg underneath has survived so far and then he will be getting x rayed in about another 2 weeks time to see how the leg is healing. Thanks for checking up on him!x

Hello everyone! Really positive news after today’s visit to the vets. We opted for another x ray after the vet felt Miltons leg as he said it felt a lot better than he expected. His leg is pretty much completely healed now! The vet said he can’t believe how quickly it has healed and how well he is coping. We have opted to have a cast on for another two weeks just to really give the leg chance to rest, this is just incase Milton does a mad popcorn and breaks it by accident whilst it is weak😂 I am so happy with how well he is coping, I couldn’t have coped without everyone’s support so thank you all very much! Very happy I got that second opinion😁

This is such lovely news. Piggies do have a very fast metabolism so do heal quickly after injury. He is so lucky to have had you as his advocate and protector.

I just thought I would pop on here to give you all an update.

Unfortunately the cast has not worked. Miltons blood flow to his leg has become compromised and he is currently staying over night at the vets post amputee op.

I removed Miltons bandage on Thursday and thought his leg looked a little swollen but I wasn’t too worried. I checked on him 10 minutes later and found blood on his face so I removed him from the cage and found his leg had a large wound on it where it has either burst due to pressure or he has bitten it. I called the vet who recommended I have him in straight away today and I clean the wound with salty water until he is seen. I gently wrapped Miltons leg to stop him causing any further damage.

We tried again this morning to save Miltons leg by giving him lots of pain relief, anti inflammatory and antibiotics. Whilst at the vets he didn’t touch his leg at all. Unfortunately whilst at home Milton would not leave his leg alone which to me and the vet indicated he was in pain and we couldn’t leave that leg on anymore. I drove the 3 hour round trip again to the vets who said his leg is more swollen and bruised than this morning and the op was carried out straight away.

Miltons op went as smooth as can be and he is currently at the vets house and being watched tonight. I’m hoping all is well and I can get my baby boy home tomorrow and finally on the road to recovery.

Aw, I'm sorry the cast didn't work after all - it did seem to be doing the job originally.

You seem to have a good vet, I'm sure they'll have done a good job and hopefully he'll recover quickly. Sending loads of healing vibes to Milton!
I'm one of those that had a rear leg amputee piggy who lived a happy piggie life after surgery, so I'm sure he has every chance of the same himself. xx

It’s a shame the cast didn’t work but at least you know you’ve tried to save the leg. 🤞 the op goes well. ❤️

I'm sorry the cast didnt work but some amputee piggies recover really well and your new vet sounds like they know what they are doing. Healing wheeks for a good recovery x

Great news he's eating already, where there's hay there's hope- half the battle with any post op piggies is getting their guts going again and keeping their appetite up :) x

Hi hope you are well, I was just wondering how Milton is doing?
Hello! Milton is doing brilliantly! He has started to fully eat for himself the past couple of days and he is running around popcorning happier than ever. I’m so happy he is starting to be himself again and back to normal🥰 Thank you for checking up on him🥰 All of the early mornings and lack of sleep has been worth it for him 🥰

Hi, how is Milton getting on?
Milton is doing brilliantly, you wouldn’t even be able to tell that he is down a leg. We stopped his meds around 2 weeks ago and he hasn’t been bothered in the slightest. He has adapted so well. Thank you for checking up on him☺️
