Kidney problems or ovarian cysts

Depending on the age of the guinea pig, it could be an infection or it could be problems due to old age. I have found that an all natural called Sovereign Silver works great for both. We started using it initially because it is an all natural antibiotic and works perfectly for small animals who often die from human antibiotics. I usually give 6 drops every hour and 2 nasal sprays in each nostril for infections until symptoms stop for several days. Toxicity is virtually impossible so you can give more if needed. Many people give it to their old animals that are having problems such as cancer, kidney failure, etc. It is also an immune booster so it works great for old age problems. You just have to figure out what dose is needed daily to keep your animals feeling good. I think good bacteria is harmed much less, but I usually mix 1/2 a capsule of probiotics with chamomile tea and give 2 times daily when giving hourly doses. If you just give it morning and night as maintanance it probably wouldn't bother them. I buy mine at our local health food store, but you can also buy it online. It has been used for years on pets and humans. Recently, there has been a decline in human usage due to a few people turning blue because they applied it directly to skin (which you are NOT supposed to do) or overdosed for over 70 years (also not recommended). However, you don't have to worry about your guinea pigs turning blue unless they are hairless. You should try it, it has saved me lots of vet bills. I find the vets are often unhelpful, especially in my area.

The only reason that gps can die from anti biotic is if an incompetent vet prescribes the wrong antibiotic.Nowadays with more informed vets and owners, this is rare.

Collodial silver would not work for ovarian cyst which is what Maya has..

Sorry for not keeping you updated but it's been a few stressful days! And thanks for all the replies. :)

Maya lost all the weight she put back on and a bit more. She was really interested in her food esp. her grass but then I noticed that she would spit everything out. She wasn't able to eat and to us it looked like she had problems with her teeth.

So back to the vet. He checked her teeth again and they are absolutely fine. However she's back to breathing really hard and he thinks that's the cause of her not eating. She can't do both eating and breathing at the same time. He listened to her heart and lungs for ages and frankly I was really worried that she wouldn't come home with us. Her lungs seem quite conjested and he gave her an injection. We'll have to give her pills for her heart and lungs and give him a call back on Monday to let him know how she's getting on.

I'm just so glad I bought critical care at the beginning of last week thanks to a lot of posts on this forum and the Thistle Cavies website has been great for information on syringe feeding! Sometimes Maya's really interested in her critical care other times she just cannot be bothered and it's a real struggle.

The good news is that she's managed to eat some Romaine lettuce on her own this morning and it didn't look like she was struggling as hard to eat. Will still keep her on the critical care as she's not eating as much as she should, but it's an improvement.

It's quite freaky how things can turn around that fast. On Thursday I was so happy as her breathing seemed almost normal, she'd put on weight and when I called the vet that day he said that we should try injections for her cysts. Everything looked bright and hopeful then. And then everything just went really bad...

Still I'm keeping my hopes up and as long as she is brave and willing to fight, so will I. She's such a gorgeous, gorgeous girlie and worth all the stress and lack of sleep!
