My poor little Muffin, 6.5 years old has cancer. I am sure the vet said both kidneys were compromised. She even offered to euthanise her there and then as she had lost a lot of weight. She was quite large, 1.2 kg and now she is around 750 g. I could not do it without telling the rest of the family. I took her home and two weeks later she is still here. She eats and drinks but is very weak and her eyes look tired and sad. She does not complain much and I would like her to die at home. The vet said the cancer was not that painful as other types but she did not want to give pain killers as they would put more strain on her kidneys. I don't want her to suffer unnecessarily. The diagnosis was made after making a scan. What should I do? :( I am so sad and confused. Help!

Hello. I'm sorry to hear about your well loved piggie.
It's so hard to battle this as we become blinkered with love. Cancer is horrible and lots of us here have piggies with it.
I have and my piggie was wonderful until nature took her.
Keep Muffin comfortable is best you can do.
No one especially you want to see her suffer.
Give Muffin a cuddle from my 4 piggies and tell her to be as you have too. Very Brave. x

Thank you. Oh she is loved and spoiled. I got her one of those round pet warmers and she loves to sit on it and sleep there. I would love to know about her food though. She drinks plenty buy her pop is small and dry. On the spoiler front, as I thought she had only days to live, I am giving her lots of her favourite treat ever, pea flakes. She would eat nothing but, and what harm can they do if she is on her way out...? Is it wise, though? I also feed her grass and good quality hay, but she has lost a lot of appetite for it. For veggies, she gets peppers, broccoli, Romain lettuce, carrot and cucumber. I don't know if any of this is harming her with her condition.

I am sorry to hear you are going through this. It is obvious you love her so very much.

Unfortunately, Muffin is terminally ill so I would be speaking to the vet about pain killers if you start to suspect she is in pain. Putting extra strain on her organs would increase the chance of them failing but once she is in pain leaving her without pain relief would not be right. Quality of life is the most important thing here.

As long as she is enjoying life still and pain free then make everyday a great day for her like you are doing.

Unfortunately, the moment of death is not always kind... I have witnessed piggies starting to pass and it is not nearly always not a 'close your eyes and go to sleep moment' I really don't mean to be harsh so sorry if my words are causing upset (i really am not meaning to) but nature is not always kind and death is very distressing. My advice would be in have her PTS the moment you see her not enjoying life anymore and suffering. PTS is often the last act of love we can do for our pets

P>S Whatever you feed her wont change a thing unfortunately when it comes to cancer so feed her what she loves.

Love to Muffin and hug to you

So sorry for your situation.
It’s so hard to care for a terminally ill piggy when all we want to do is make them better.
Make good memories with Muffin, take lots of photos, these will help you when she popcorns over the Rainbow Bridge.
Remember you are already grieving for her - that started as soon as you were given the diagnosis. Be gentle with yourself in the days ahead.
You will know in your heart if the day comes to help her over the Rainbow Bridge
We are here to support you

So sorry to read about poor Muffins prognosis, poor little lady x
Enjoy her and spend as much time as you can together. You have given her a life full of love and she will know this. Sending lots of hugs to you at this sad time x

I agree with the above 2 replys.
Very rare are 2 situtations the same When I was told my piggie Cocoa had cancer of the mouth . . .I was heart broken and through tears I promised her she would not suffer and till she died she did not . . .
and yes she loved her food and ate really well. I was told and great advise this.
You know she's ill Dave and she's going to die but she didn't know she was.
Keep Muffin warm and plenty tlc and be strong. x

It helps enormously. I really appreciate your honesty. I know how it is. I had three piggies. My lovely Bella died in my arms when she was 3 from a brain tumor. She felt bad I the morning and was gone in the afternoon. I will see if the vet can give me some pain relief for when things get even worse. Thank you so.much again x
