Just exactly how delish is Metacam? Might have to try it myself, LOL!

Hiya, as some of you may know, my special little sow, Darklis, is on daily Metacam (for some chronic pain in her back area). She's only been having it for a week, and already she's loving it!

She normally has her medication at about 10pm, but last night at that time, she was fast asleep and snuggled up in the hay tray. She looked so peaceful and calm that I was very reluctant to disturb her, so I thought I'd try a little experiment, not thinking for a minute that it would work!

I offered the syringe to her while she was lying down (fully expecting her to scoot off as soon as she saw me/it) but she pretty much dived on it, gobbled down the Metacam and then wouldn't let go of the syringe. I wasn't even holding her or stopping her from moving away.

I have therefore come to the conclusion that Metacam must be one of the nommiest things on the planet for piggies! LOL!

Yes, Metacam is loved! Putt used love it, she would grab the syringe off you! She always looked forward to it after her fibreplex (which she was not keen on)

Our vet said it smelt like ferrets!
 
Squeaky (my special piggie) is also on metacam. He loves it! He gobbles it down and then licks the syringe afterwards x)

Hi Rach (assuming it's Rach!), Darklis is doing well, thanks......from my close observation, she seems to be hardly 'fussing' with her back at all since being on the Metacam, but it's really hard to tell for sure cos it'll take ages for the barbered hair to grow back! x

My mate who's a vet said to me to try it. Apparently it's very popular with most pets as it is so sweet.

It's the antibiotics like Baytril etc that are bitter and harder to get things to take.
 
Spike would wrestle the syringe off you and wasn't satisfied until he'd have every last drop! My vet said it tastes like honey.

Ace news! (It's Lee this time lol!) Great she isn't barbering as much - it must be having some affect.

Pleased she loves the taste it takes the stress out of syringing medicine time! Baytril has to be the worst, Treacle gets a flat face trying to avoid it lol!
 
I have a habit of tasting these things - it's a sweet taste (supposed to smell/taste like honey, personally I think it smells and tastes like ferrets, not that I've ever licked a ferret!). Dogs and cats, particularly cats, seem to like sweet things, hence why it's flavoured like that!

I can quite understand why my piggies hate baytril and panacur, and why septrin is a hit, as is zantac!

Ah, but I saw the error of my ways... I'm vegetarian now! No licking animals for me!

However, after spending the morning in a car with 6 ferrets, the afternoon learning to microchip the damn things (not advised!) and the evening driving home with them - I never want to smell ferret again!
