I cant fault my vet, they are fantastic. What happens if you give the any type of medicine you buy on line or get from a friend to treat your piggie and it dies. How would you feel? If you take an animal to a vet and something goes wrong the yes be angry but if you killed your own animal to save a bit of money you'd never forgive yourself.

mine are fantastic too.

yes ive had a bad experience with my last vet, but yo should go around different vets and find one who is good with pigs who know what they are on about. my new vets has 2 who love piggies and are great with them, but even so, on munchies return visit on monday i didnt see the piggy specialist but he was just as good.

not all vets are bad and i find it a joke that you think you have more knowledge than vets ila ::)

i trust my vet with my pigs, but i wouldnt trust you with them ::)

My mum's friends daughter is training to be a vet the work involved as you can imagine is immense. Knowing all about different animals takes a lot of knowledge and time. Mary gave me the best piece of advice when I was concerned my vet wasn't that well up on guinea pigs. She told me to stick with them and help teach them too so any problems I ask her then take it to them.

I'm not qualified to give medication, I would never forgive myself if I did the wrong thing. I mean, for God's sake I even look it up when I buy different lettuce like Lamb's lettuce to see if they can have it. 98)

If my piggies have mites, then the vet is going to give them two shots, a week apart. Is it normal for the vet to charge for a second visit if all they need is another shot?

Some will, some won't. It depends on the individual practice.

My vet charged my £24 for 3 mite shots (I have read they don't need the third shot) I thought that was a good deal. :)

I wouldnt trust you either or any of my local vets :)

you wouldnt need to trust me with them because i actually take my piggies to a vet if i think theres a problem, instead of trying to solve it myself, like a responsible owner ::)

not that all people who treat pigs themself are irresponsible there are owners who have had piggies for years and rescues who could do it, just because you have loads of pigs doesnt mean your more experienced ila i wouldnt call you and experienced piggy owner id call rescues and people like mary, dsl and other knowledgable members experienced

why arent i experienced then ? You just said not all people who treat pigs themselves are irresponsable - except people like rescues, and have had piggies for years

what I'm trying to get at is just cause your a rescue or had piggies for years doesnt also make you responsible either you know ;)

I know I'm very responable with my piggies and i do a fantastic job at caring for them and do take my piggies to the vets if they are ill :) Its just that my vets cant even sex let alone treat my own pets :)

why them and not me ?

because they are more knowledgable than you thats why ::)

you may think your knowledgable but there are many members here much more knowledgable. i consider my self fairly knowledgable but wouldnt say i know everything and always look to learn more, and never think of myself above vetinary advice.

so your local vets are supposedly bad, then look further afield? i travel an hour there and back to my vets, to get the best possible care for my piggies, which imo every piggy owner should be willing to do for the welfare of their piggies.

plus you dont always give out accurate advice like in this thread
