One of my guinea pigs recently had pups and today I noticed a patch of missing fur around her eye, and I looked back at pictures of the day she had her pups and she had it then too but not as much, does anyone know what’s happening and if I need to take her to the vet

Could you post a picture? If you are at all concerned take her and the babies to the vet.

I am currently in high school and can’t afford to take my piggies to the vet, if you know what it is is it something I can treat from home( sorry for unclear picture)

I’m sorry but we are not vets so can’t diagnose anything and we don’t advocate home treatments as they can often make things worse even if you are able identify what you are dealing with. Any health issue needs a vet to diagnose and prescribe the correct treatment.
However patches of fur missing can be down to several different skin conditions, one of which is ringworm and is contagious to other piggies and humans. We can’t say whether that is what you are dealing with for certain so you do need to go to a vet.

Please ask your parents to pay for the vet. That is one of their welfare rights - healthcare.

How old are the pups now?

There about two weeks old we were planning on getting them sexed before 250 grams anyway.

Have a read of the sexing thread I’ve linked below. You can check the mother and compare to see. Sows should have a fleshy seal just inside the slit. And boars have a penis ridge that can be felt (be gentle) between the genital area and the belly button.

Did you manage to get your piggy an appointment?

My dad is really close with his boss who’s brother happens to be a veterinarian for small animals they have talked about having him sex my guinea pigs for a low price and tomorrow we are going to see if he can take a look at the guinea pigs.

Good to hear. Let us know the outcome. You should also learn to sex them for yourself, comes in handy for the future ☺️
