Hi, not sure you will have much luck with your mum but you could try to insulate there hutch with hutch covers, you could also try to use products like snuggle safes that you microwave to warm your piggies up, maby try to relay to your mum the g pigs being brought indoors would be only for winter their for she may be more understanding ! :)

I struggled too XD Go to that section, start a new thread and at the bottom of the page near Preview it'll say Upload A File :)

I'm in the same boat as you with not being allowed my guinea pigs inside as my dad doesn't want them inside and my mum isn't too keen either so I just change their hay daily in their sleeping area of their hutch and stuff it full of hay at night and that has worked for this winter and I used to just fill with hay once a week for the past 4-5 years :) I have not had a guinea pig die from cold as of yet and my three seem pretty content outside :)

Yeah I try to give them as much hay to sleep in as possible!

Thank you! I will upload a pic of Sammy as soon as my phone is charged but I don't have any pics of Domino yet as I don't want to scare him too much!

If money is a factor you can save on spending out on the correx by asking any local estate agents if they have any old For sale boards lying around, as these are usually made from correx - I got several different sized ones and then cut them to size and taped them with duct tape - they are the base of my cage - as fleece goes on top so you cant see the for sale by auction bits at all - (or just flip the side over so you see the blank back )

Thats such a great idea! Money is quite a factor to me as I'm using purely my pocket money but I've already saved up some!:))

I can totally sympathize, my fiancé is totally opposed to pigs indoors but luckily I have a cosy shed, heat pads and sleeping bags.

I think maybe the softy softly approach is the best way to go with your mum. If they're anything like my parents, if you've got one parent on board then you're a good way to wining the fight eventually! Maybe if you start researching C&C cage designs, you can show your mum some of the amazing pictures of other people's cages and how hygienic and good looking they are. It can be hard to imagine such a stylish guinea pig habitat when your piggies are in a hutch full of hay, but some of the fleece lined cages look so tidy and neat. Plus if anything, your furbabies are more likely to pick up parasites and attract vermin outside as that's where they come from - a large reason why many cat owners won't let them play outside for fear of fleas. If you keep the hay and food inside, it's no more likely to attract things than human food is.

In the meantime, like @PiggyOwner and @Alex2016 said you can start putting things in place that will help for now ie heat pads and hutch cover. I think that wouldn't be unreasonable to ask mum that since they can't come in she help provide things to keep them safe outside.
Surely if you're proving to her that you're being a responsible pet owner, she will begin to appreciate that fact and eventually come round to the idea. Good luck!

Thank you! I will definitely start supplying them with nice, warm heat pads and a hutch cover! My dad is going to speak to my mum and I think that eventually she'll come round but for now all I can do is keep them safe where they are!:tu:
