I am currently wanting a C&C cage for my guinea pigs, to give them the best life possible, instead of a big hutch in the garage. The c&c cage will be put on a single bed at the size of 5x2. I would like your help to persuade my mum to let me get a c&c cage, she says 'they're not meant to be in the house permanently'.

So, fire away with the good points of indoor piggies. :)

You wouldnt put a dog in a cage and leave it outside all day and night, so why with any other animal? Plus guinea pigs are prey animals, cats will torment them, birds will try pecking at the cage to get them, not to mention illness due to cold (just like any other animal) which can result in death.

They are less likely to get ill inside so less vet bills for your mum to pay and they don't eat as much when inside and don't need as much hay so cheaper for bills. You are also less likely to get ill as not going in and out of the cold. Good luck

Thank you everyone.
Yes, it isn't that pleasant going out in the dark at 7:00 am and in the dark for 4:30 pm. And I look like a zombie at 7:00 am so I am liable to walking into the wall. Would not end well....

You will do "whatever household job she knows you/she hates" for a month/year. Lol.

It's worth a try. Lol.

I once told my mum and dad that the guinea pig (snowball ,rip) I was getting was paper trained and wouldn't mess in the house when out his cage. Lol and the funny thing is he never ever did pee/ poop on the carpet. :tu: Good luck.

Update on the situation:
I am getting the garage roof done soon, because it's cracked, and my mum agreed the pigs need to be in the house for when it's being done, we first agreed on buying a p@h cage, but I told my mum it works out cheaper to buy grids and correx from amazon, and if we go abroad and my grandad looks after the pigs, the girls won't be in such a confined space- because with c&c you can customise it and move it to a place. So if I create the c&c cage when they've arrived, I can set it up to how I want it, then once she's looking at it, and sees how much the girls like it, I will put the question to her. Surely she'll say yes then, because it's already set-up. And the problem of my friend coming in the house to feed them isn't a problem, because we can just transfer the pigs in the hutch when we go on holiday.

I can't really use that chores compromise, because I do a lot of jobs in the garden/house a lot of the time anyway, all VOLUNTARILY (god knows why, I like work, what can I say! lol)

I have a c&c cage plan.
5x2 open cage, 1x2 loft (with extra grid below to support), extra grid to the side of ramp to prevent falls. No grid on entrance to loft, circular entrance cut-out to loft. I will have to see if I'll have enough grids spare to make a 2x2 loft, because I will need to have several more left.
c&c cage 4 Plan.webp

Oh that looks great! I just think its so much harder work keeping guinea pigs outside. You can make indoor cages look so nice with interesting accessories. And you really get to appreciate their awesomeness when they are inside! I love watching them run piggy-laps round the pen, galloping, pop corning and playing choo-choo trains or chase me chase me. You don't get to see all that from the sofa when they are just hutch pets!

If you buy the seville 8 cube you will have 30 grids and from what you say you will need about 24 so you will have 6 left for a spare 1x2 loft but be 2 short for a spare 2x2 loft

Yeah, I was going to get the seville ones.
But I worked out I'd be a few short, because I won't have enough for the base of the loft, and there's won't be one left for the ramp grid to the side, and the support. We will buy two of the seville 30 grids, so I can customise it.

Yeah if you go for 2 packs you will have lots left, probably enough left to make a good size run aswell which if you put together with cable ties can then be folded away when not in use

But then it is quite expensive, nearly 60 quid, not mentioning the correx!
