I am not sure whether I should I have posted onto my other thread, but it was kind of a different question, but here goes...
I'm getting 2 guinea pigs in a while...could be anywhere from weeks to months, to years..all depends on when we get the room available :(
In the meantime I'm getting all excited by looking at guinea pig cages, bedding and all the cute accessories for them..I can't wait!

However, I'm currently looking at cages and the choice is unbelievable. There are so many cages with different features/different sizes and I'm unsure on what to go for. I heard 2 tier cages aren't great as piggies don't really like the ramps but I really wanted 2 tier as I liked the idea of having the two separate levels...I came across this one from amazon:
It's around £60 which I think is pretty well priced..but I'm not sure if it's going to be anygood..I would like your advice please!

Hi there. I would say the ramp is far too steep for guinea pigs. The actual cage is too small. It must be at least 120 by 60 cm. Would you consider a c and c cage?

Hi Yes the ramp on that is too steep and the cage will be too small. This cage in my picture is 120cm by 60cmm and is the one that I have for indoors, it is on zooplus, and I have kept two very happy piggies in this. C and C is good from what I have seen from the pictures on here but I don't have any experience with this.

I thought about C and C but it's not really going to work price wise. I know C and C are actually pretty cheap but living in the UK - I just want to be able to buy the package with the base aswell, and most C and C uk sellers simply just sell the grids. And I feel C and C are harder to clean - just my opinion.
I would much prefer the store bought cages but obviously i realise some are way to small. Thanks @Popcornpiggy I will go check that cage out!

Edit: Just looked at it. £49 - not bad! I really wanted a second level though...

OH yes. I was looking at the 100 one (£49) the one you have is £70.

Oh the wish of having two tiers looks like it's not going to work.

Many guinea pigs refuse to use ramps so do not worry about another level. My c and c is on the floor and it is very easy to clean. I just sit inside it. As it is on the floor I do not have cortex. Mine has grids connected with cable ties and connector's. C and c cages give much more space then cages which just meet minimum requirements.

@piggyfan what do you use for the base? My cage would be on the floor if I were to use C and C cages...and the floor is carpet so obviously I need something to protect that!
How many layers do you have and what are the layers?
If possible could you please tell me how often you change each layer! Thanks very much x

Nothing! Haha. You can use a shower curtain. I use towels and vetbed and over time it has caused the laminate floor to rise so I would use a shower curtain to avoid that. I change the towels and vetbed every three days.

I see. Come to think of it. That double tier cage I was looking at is £60! I've found this website that sells C and C cages in the UK. £70 for this beauty:

I was thinking of putting the loft on the end..so it had no part of the cage under it and was supported by grids (as in the piggies couldn't go under there)...makes it easier to clean and more room and accessibility for toys! :D

Might be going for that considering its only £10 dearer + it comes with the cortex base!

I love c and c cages. I made mine 8 by 3 so I do not have to give floor time.

They may not use the ramp and it is just slightly too small to meet the minimum requirements. I would choose c and c over any bought cage as they are small.

Right. I'm not getting a C and C at the moment. It's a store bought cage for now.
Can anyone reccommend a STORE BOUGHT cage thats decent/suitable enough? Doesn't have to be 2 tier.

Under £70 if possible...if not then under £100...

We got our first cage from jollies its a good size and not expensive, it has a ramp going up to a ledge and they use it . we have also brought a good one from pets warehouse on line.

I made my own cage from large storage boxes and connected them with tunnels from pets at home

they are easy to clean as they are clear plastic and my wee piggy harold cant kick anything out

it means u can separate areas also so he has a bed box a food box and a toy box

I guess the downside would be judging space if u had a few piggys as I only have one and he is never really in his cage as he gets run of living room unless we r out or at night

but I guess b creative and think about how u could makeone as u can customize and make 1 to suit your needs or just buy one but there so expensive

with a saw

u have to draw round the tunnel and saw out the hole size and then insert the tunnel then the same for the water bottle

Probably going with the C and C cage the 2 x 3 with the 1 x 2 loft. Gonna make some adaptations to it so that the loft does not lay over tthe cage. Will get some more grids and use them as support.

Is 2 x 3 base enough? It's 69.99
If not I guess i can squeeze another £5 and go for the 2 x 4 base for £74.99...

If you love the two tier cages, as long as the bottom level meets the required space previously mentioned, why not do some modifications to reduce ramp steepness? I've seen pictures in the members cages thread where people have put mezzanine layers in if you did that on the bottom level, you could have 2 less steep ramps.

I would make those with sides on them or ( poss even better) have tunnels to get between levels.

I hear what you are saying about not wanting to go for c&c right now and that's just personal choice. There's no reason why you would be like me but for what it's worth I'll share my story with you.

I've got a ferplast 120 double cage bought when Amazon were selling v cheaply not that long ago. I haven't used it yet because the ramp is too steep and I want to alter it before I put piggies in or I may block the ramp hole up and make 2 cages - depends which pair or pairs of piggies I decide are going in.

I've been looking at c&c stuff for making an indoor run and have realised I could make a cage (if no roof required) slightly larger than the 120 single cage dimensions (but not much so I don't need to worry about tying up floor space) for £35 for the grids plus £14.50 for the correx floor for the cage and have enough grids left to make a large run (for floor time). I'd just use old towels on the floor for something not permanently there.

Both prices found on ebay or amazon and include any shipping costs.

We've had piggies for a few months now and, with the experience I've had so far (admittedly nothing compared to many on this forum), I wish I'd realised this before I'd bought the ferplast cage. It seems so much cheaper it would have been worth trying I think.

Please don't think I am trying to convince you to go with c&c. I haven't got any experience myself with it so couldn't properly recommend it. I just thought you might find my story useful in some way.

Oh - currently my piggies are living in a cage borrowed from a friend who had a house rabbit in the past and a Hagen cage I bought second hand for £15. Might be worth trying to get something second hand or borrowed to start with so you can have a better idea of what you really want?

Thankyou for the advice @PiggySmitten !

I'm really thinking of the Midwest habitat.. expansions for the cage are Avaliable which sounds good, and there's quite a bit of space in the cage..what are peoples thoughts on this?
