Hi,

We have four piggy boys and we would like to get a cat from a cat shelter, but we would like to know whether there are any common illnesses between them?
They can get the mites/etc from each other but is there any illnesses?

Thanks

Not that I know of. Ringworm is the most contagious thing that can pass between all mammals.

Skin parasites are species specific. Guinea pigs and cats can't catch each other's mange or other mites or lice; they won't be able to survive on the other host.

Not any illnesses no, not that I know of.
I have 4 cats and two pigs, and have fostered tons of kittens and cats, in that period I didn't come up against any illnesses that could spread between them :)

Most of the time if you get a cat for a rescue there either fully vaccinated anyway. They might be cats with fiv or other cat related illnesses/diseases but most common cat illnesses won't spread to the pigs :)

I have seen a post on one of the facebook groups that a lady lost her piggy as her dog had kennel cough and the piggy got ill . Sadly he passed away :(
