Ill

Someone from the HA is hopefully coming to pick up the prescription and fill it, I don't have the energy to stand around in Asda for it lol. I've had tonsillitis before, but my age was in single digit figures and I remember my throat hurting enough it was painful to swallow then. Hadn't occurred to me the pain might be different this time round, but he says the white spots are on my tonsils, I'll believe it. Maybe this explains my ears playing up, too.

8 tablets a day for 10 days though. Yikes.

Well I hope they prioritise this and you get the meds ASAP. Take care.

Someone's off with it now, once they drop it off and Amazon have been (or delivered it to the wrong address again, whichever lol) I'll be taking a well deserved nap. And it might not be Covid but I'm still not going for the appointment tomorrow.

And the pipe under the sink is leaking too. Any excuse not to do the washing up!

All happening for you eh 😢
I remember tonsillitis…… it’s like swallowing razor blades 😬just awful
The pills should kick in soon and if you can take them some painkillers are a good idea
Take care and everyone here is wishing you ‘get better soon’ 🥰

Glad you know what it is now and have got the right meds. Hopefully it eases up soon, it’s horrid.

See this is the part that doesn't make sense to me - I remember that from when I was young, and I don't have that. At all. I've a sore throat yes but it's not razorblade sore. If he hadn't looked and said tonsillitis it's not something I'd've thought of at all.

Just tried to give the goblins lettuce with full hands. Needed to cough as soon as I started. Cam chose that moment to be as delicate as possible in scoping out his next bit of lettuce from the tub, and I swear he does it on purpose, lol. 😱 but

Ooo I’m glad you’re not experiencing ‘the razor blade ‘ soreness but not glad you’re ill !
Self care and the pills will help in no time 🥰

I am very sorry. Tonsilitis is not very nice but the antibiotic will hopefully help. :(

My husband and I have had a nasty cold with weeks of a persistent heavy and pretty debilitating cough (of which I am still not rid of). I've spent the two weeks around Easter mostly in bed due to my hypersensitive and very swollen sinuses after a lifetime of sinus trouble in order to take the pressure off the front of my face and ease the pain naturally. I am still struggling with my strength and occasionally my breathing. Heavy coughing and Long Covid don't mix well.

The sinus trouble culminating in a decade of chronic sinusitis during my teens and early twenties started up after I had my tonsils removed as a child due to having tonsilitis all the time. I remember a lot of sore and painful throats and feeling grotty a lot.

Resolving one issue lead to another. Not nice at all 😔

The cough is what's getting me too, I had to sleep with 3-4 pillows last night to get to sleep because I needed to be as upright as possible, but of course that's got my neck griping at me this morning, and half an hour after I get out of bed, the cough's back. Hadn't even vaped yet. Thankfully my sinuses seem (so far) unaffected, but still. Don't get me wrong I know how bad the throat pain can be from tonsillitis, but I'd almost rather that than the cough.

It's always the way with these things unfortunately.

No. Instead of 10 tonsilitises a year I had about 10 colds a year for nearly two decades since the tonsils act as bug catching filters for the respiratory system. One of my sinus cavities doesn't drain well at all so I have had to find ways of how to best prevent another herd of infection developing in there, which includes positioning my head in certain ways and lots of inhaling using yoga breathing techniques that help you direct the air flow to each sinus individually. Thankfully, I have managed to dodge another sinusitis this time although I had a few iffy days.

This coughy cold that is currently making the rounds is unfortunately not one the flu jab gives you protection for. I haven't had a cold since well before the pandemic, so no real surprise there.

@ Lorcan: I am glad that your tonsilitis is not the worst form but I am very sorry that the same bug is causing you such discomfort. I hope that you feel better again soon!

I wait until I have had the worst of my airways clearing morning coughing session before I go downstairs to feed the piggies and then inhale with olbas oil to help get any remaining muck in the bronchia and sinuses out and then calm the airways down for the day until the cough is picking up again in late afternoon and the evening; I usually have another olbas session in late afternoon and always one before I go to bed.
Of course, every time I wake up during the night means another coughing bout and extra time to settle down again. :(

For the bad coughing bouts that knot me up I always have throat and herbal ricola lozenges handy, as well as for going out. I have been wearing my mask again in closed spaces when in contact with other people for our Easter shopping since I didn't want to spoil their Easter by passing on the bug. We had to postpone our own Easter meal for a week because neither was feeling well enough to enjoy it.

I can't stack my pillows too high or my problem sinus wouldn't drain properly. :(

The only good thing about having swollen sinuses and only a partial sense of smell has been that I have been spared the full impact of all the boarly testosterone during last week's many bonding sessions. :D

i used to get tonsilitisis from october to march, until i was 14,had tonsils removed...no more problems.with grommets 6 times, glue ear.it all stopped.unfortunatley it has left me with conductive hearing loss, and need hearing aids.i feel your pain, with antibiotics i hope you feel better soon, icecream is soothing !

I've had 4 doses of antibiotics now and it's...better. Still coughing, but not as hard or for as long or with so small a trigger. It still sounds horrendous, but not to the extent it was.

I somehow don't have anything useful in the house. I need to do an Amazon restock of my meds cupboard, lol.

I'm good as long as I stay upright. As soon as I try lying down it starts again. I can also talk without it sounding like I'm wheezing or unable to catch a breath...which I never was, but I was trying to avoid hacking up a lung and apparently they sound the same, hah.

That's the thing with antibiotics, at least for humans - if they're going to work at all, you're going to find out fairly quickly. Even if the antibiotic is prescribed for a longer course (like 10 days, in my case) you're still likely to know much sooner than that.

Geez but I'm cranky. No eating for an hour before taking the meds, no eating for two hours after taking the meds. That basically gives me an hour window between doses. And if I'm not hungry during that hour? Deal with it, wait for the next one.

I've been asked to have a meeting at home on Friday with adult care and the housing association. I should've said no outright, but it doesn't matter, because the chances of it happening are slim to none.

Argh. I don't know when it started, but I've got no sense of smell. I sound slightly nasal when I talk but I don't have a blocked nose - I might sound slightly nasal to myself because my ears are slightly off, though, so there's that. I can still taste things somewhat although they're a tad muted, but smell is gone. Can't-smell-coal-tar-shampoo levels of gone.

HUGS

My sense of smell is also not still not really back yet, either. I can smell the worst of the testosterone pong and the strongest of cooking smells but the rest still escapes me. :(

I knew my ears had been affected, but not my sense of smell, not like that anyway. I know I could still smell on Monday, possibly yesterday, possibly even this morning? But then I've also had a blocked nose (the type that you can't "blow away") so, maybe I've been missing it for a couple of days and just not realised. The guy from the HA just brought my meds over, and he's said he'll drop me in some LFTs tomorrow morning through the letterbox if I'm asleep. I know they're not 100% accurate but they're better than nothing right now.

Tomorrow's Asda order is coming with some nasal spray and a few other things that should help, at least.

All the best! Sounds like you have got the fully Monty. :( :( :(

My own nasty cold was definitely not Covid (hub and I did make sure, though) and my current ongoing loss is down to the fact that my sinuses are still badly swollen and there is very little left I can do about that.

But I have experienced those symptoms in past colds in relation with the kind of blocked sinuses you describe. Sorry that your tonsilitis/cold has also penetrated toward the ear and the nasal cavities. The sense of smell should gradually return after a cold as the nasal cavities gradually swell down and settle down.

I hope that the spray can help you.
