I think my piggy is dying

He’s asleep right now on his daddy. He really doesn’t look good but he’s warm and as comfortable as he can be.
He doesn’t seem to be able to bend at all, he’s very rigid.
His tummy is gurgling but no poops or pees yet.
Thank you all xx

I’m sorry he’s struggling. Have you been able to get any syringe feed into him? Even if just mushed pellets. Hugs.

Thank you both.
He’s had about 2ml of water and the same of very runny critical care. I have him on me now. I’ll leave him to rest a couple of hours and try and get some more into him. He doesn’t want it, which is hard, because I know he needs it. I’m not ready to say goodbye to him yet.
Is every two hours ok or should it be hourly?

I would possibly do hourly simply because he’s taking too little every two hours. And he’s not pooing. I would give the mushed pellets/critical before the water. You’re aiming for 60-90ml in a 24 hour period.

You also need to weigh daily when worried about a piggy. But I don’t know how suitable that is for your boy.

Thanks for that advice.
What a long night. He took very little water and critical care. He has had two wees and is farting like a good’un!
he seems brighter this morning. He’s certainly got more strength but still no interest in eating or drinking.
I am so pleased he made it through the night. He slept under my chin pretty much all night. Never have I been so pleased to be peed on. No poops though but he’s not eaten so I’m not surprised.
I will weigh him later on and keep an eye on that. At the moment all I want him to do is eat something

I’m glad he seems brighter.
you really do need to be a bit forceful with getting the critical care into him. 90mls in 24 hours as he isnt eating for himself.

It’s good he seems brighter but :agr: with the above. Do you know how much weight he’s lost since yesterday?

Yes, I will be more forceful today.
I don’t know how much he’s lost, I’ve not weighed him at all yet. He seems to get so cold so quickly so he’s just tucked inside my clothes. I’m moving in a minute to the kitchen to get his meds so I’ll take him with me and get him weighed

Yes that is a lot of weight loss. Be ultra confident in giving him the critical care so he doesn't pick up on any anxiety from you and ensure he is fed regularly throughout the day. Keep a chart of how much you get into him and when so you can know you are aiming for as close to 90ml as possible

I have just put him back in with Gibson (he's been with me all night). He made a dash straight for the hay, had a little nibble, then went to his hot pad. I put some salad leaves in and he came out and sniffed them. I thought I'd try him with one of the Oxbow hay tablets, he snatched it off me and is slowly but surely making his way through it, so that's a massive improvement on yesterday.
He's also had about 2ml water and 1ml water.
He's wondering around now and picking what Gibson has left of the salad/peas off the floor.
Thank you to all of you on this lovely forum for your kind words, advice and support. I will keep you updated xx

Have you managed to get more cc into him? It’s really important when he’s not eating for himself. Especially with the amount of weight loss. Every hour. Also remember to weigh at the same time each day. You could even put a bowl of mushed pellets in the cage. Or even cc.

Thanks, @Siikibam. He's just had some more lettuce, and a little hay. I'll get him back out at 11am and get him to have some cc. I'd put it in with him but ol' gobble-guts-Gibson would have it all (he loves it!).
What about water? Still after the cc? He has had the smallest of poops.
I'm so pleased I'm working from home. Hoping he recovers as quickly as he declined..

The CC is more important than the water in terms of fibre and keeping his guts going. You can still syringe a little water. You could try giving it to him on a spoon or in a bowl when you get him out. He could possibly eat more that way but it’s a case of trial and error.

When I’ve had to syringe feed my pigs and buns critical care I always had a syringe with water with me too but I would focus on the critical care and then maybe after a good big amount of the food I’d offer the water syringe. But there is a good amount of water in the critical care when mixed so that’s the more important of the two in my eyes.
You are doing so well, fingers crossed things are improving. That’s a very worrying amount of weight so he really needs the critical care to keep him going. Good luck.

When mine are on syringe food, I add a small pinch of pro-c into the water and syringe it in. My lot prefer it to plain water.

Thank you, all.

He has had another 1ml of cc, a bit of tomato, some more hay, a couple of Oxbow pellets and a Cheerio (I know, but right now I'll try him with anything). I've also put the tiniest drop of squash in the syringe water and he's far more happy to take that. Still adamant he wants no cc but I'll keep going.

Just reheated his snuggle pad so he's on that. He looks so much better than yesterday but still not right. His coat though is shiny again and he's bright eyed and responsive.

Maybe another night on the sofa with him tonight, just to be certain he's ok.

Thank you all for your support xx

The only thing he really needs is the critical care. His gut won’t function properly without the fibre And his weight will continue to drop. If he doesn’t like critical care, then perhaps try emeraid or mushed up pellets.
I really wouldn’t encourage putting squash in the water, it could cause more problems than it’s worth.

Mine prefer Science Selective Recovery Plus over CC. It needs to be the Plus as that one has added Vit C. I can send you a couple of packs if you want to try them. PM me your address and I'll send them off on Monday.

Mine all love Oxbow Critical Care.
I usually mash a small piece of banana into the cc and anything that’s not syringe fed goes into a ramekin dish in the cage to encourage eating.

I felt like crying, i have faced such crisis but i didnt gave up which made my baby fine af in 2 weeks.. i am sure he will pull through this Am very very sure..will be keeping him in my prayers ❤️
