I can't believe it! Wilma crying when peeing?

Oh honey, its not your fault. There seem to be an awful lot of UTi's going around just now :(. Don't blame yourself.

I am sorry to hear that! It's NOT unusual that UTIs make the rounds and this year seems to be worse than usual; probably because of all the temperature swings we're having.

Aww, no! Poor Wilma, and you! It has nothing to do with what you're doing, these unfortunate things tend to come in waves. Make sure they get plenty of watery veg, like cucumber and lettuce. It will help keep them hydrated and it will also water down the acidity of their wee making it less painful to urinate. I only speak from my own human experience here, I know when I have have had a UTI the more water I drink the less painful it is to pee, so I'm guessing it is the same for guineas.

I have been sitting with Patrick for over 40 minutes and he's still not peed! Thinking about Patrick has never pee'd when out surely he can only hold it so long?!

Would you believe it after an hour of waiting roughly for him to wee I gave up and put him in his cage he wee'd straight away no discomfort or crying shall check Fred next.

I know EXACTLY how you feel on that one - only mulitply it times nine and then you know what I've been through since Easter...malletheadmalletheadmallethead

Remember that not all pees do necessarily contain blood, either! Reddish pee can be blood free (Llewi pulled that one at the vets last year) while supposedly clear urine can contain enough blood to register.

I wish you the very best of luck!

No ones pee has blood that I have noticed just crying.

My girls were out for 2 hours today. No-one peed until they went back in the cage. I guess they can hold on longer than we think. :)

I'm currently waiting on Fred to pee... could be a long night, Wilma and Pebbles just don't care were and when they pee :)).

I've heard cranberry juice can help?
have investigated this ...and the advice is to give a couple of un-sweetened 5ml syringe fulls a day- the cranberry helps break down the bacteria and atatches to the bad stuff in the bladder and clear infections - make sure they are drinking plenty to flush out (works in humans too but obv in bigger quantitys!) hope this works x

Sorry to hear the girls have an infection, there is no doubt that it is not your fault, your piggies are treated like royalty! They are lucky to have a mum like you, who else would wait for them to wee!

How is Wilma this morning?

Apparently she doesn't pee on demand, I'm presuming she does have what her sister has, wondering if I should just ask the vet to prescribe another course as Pebbles is no longer crying. Seems too much of a coincedence that both girls have the same symptons not for it to be the same illness, if you know what I mean?

Aw poor Wilma ... and poor you .... yes it sounds the same to me too .... you could always talk to the vet about it and see if he thinks the same without having to take her in ?

I do know what you mean, does seem a bit odd that Wilma should have it too. I'm sure the vet would prescribe the same given the success you've had with treating Pebbles, so recently too, it will still be in the vets mind.

It's something I should look into at some stage - exactly what kind (and how) cystitis that can be passed between pigs. Cases of it seem to be on the increase.

MY pigs all get out on the same inco pad fleece one after the other so even though they aren't in the same cage they do get the same floortime space, which is the only way that I can think Wilma has picked it up from Pebbles, as we know Wilma and Pebbles aren't in the same cage. I am also thinking the girls have got it because the fur at there bum is longer at the back than the boys.

Also someone mentioned it could be genetics with the girls that they maybe prone to UTI's as this is the first summer I have had them I can't comment on that.

From what I have read they do seem more common in Summer. I am very surprised at how fast Pebbles cleared up.

Wilma is she straining?

Is she straining? Your thoughts please?!

The above video is Wilma and she wasn't peeing, just passing a pellet.

Joanne, I've watched/listened a couple of times and from what I can tell it all looks normal - they can raise their rear end when passing pellets without there being any problems there. I heard some very faint squeaking as she pooped, something to keep an eye on, but if it is a UTI then it's in its infancy.

Yes Laura I also heard the squeak, I am keeping an eye on her, she seems determined not to pee for me. I do know though 100% she was cry when weeing yesterday, I was just trying to work out what straining looks like as I've never seen it before!

I think straining would include hunching a little....I know words aren't much use right now and a video is what you're after, will have a look around for you. :))
