How long do you soak the poo for poo soup?

The water didn't change color. I soaked it for two minutes.

Did I use too much water?

I’ve always mashed the poo into the water with a cocktail stick or something else small and pointy.

The guide is here, but I can’t see how to copy the link nicely, sorry

Hope this helps

Oh, ok… looks better once I hit “Post”, learned something 😁

Hi

Don't soak for long and don't wait for the water to discolour (2-3 minutes). The fresher, the more gut microbiome is still alive when it reaches the gut; it dies off very quickly (hence why recovering piggies prefer to pick any healthy companion's poos straight from the source). Use the smallest bowl or (cleaned) old medicine bottle possible as you only need to just about cover the poos. It is more about the speed than the volume of the process.

I have an old plastic spoon I use as a poop masher. I never knew this was a necessary item or task as a piggy owner but it does help! 😅 The small glass dishes from Gu desserts do the job nicely too (for poop soup or mixing together critical care).

Thanks everyone I've got it now. I mash it up.

It's day two of poo soup and in the night he did some well formed ones and a massive pile.

But he just did some misshapen ones.

How long till the poo soup kicks in? He's been off antibiotics for two weeks.

Don't forget that the some of the poo will be from before the poo soup.

Give it a bit more time. Keep in mind that that guinea pigs eat some of their poos for a second run through through the gut to break down the grass fibre further so you have to give it a minimum of two days but things are definitely looking up!

Do you recommend the full two weeks of poo soup the vet recommended? His poo is mostly normal, one soft one yesterday.
