How long did your guinea pig live for?

Just asking as I keep hearing different answers to this.

Some say four years, some say 9 years.

Just wondered what is the average age and does living inside or outside make a difference?

Sorry - my piggies range from 9.5 months down to 15 weeks so don't want to think about their lifespan :{
Mine are indoors permanently and even if we have a good spell of nice weather, will be indoors overnight.

4-8 years is average but some live to be older and some younger.

I don't know that there is an average. They are so good at keeping their ailments to themselves that it's difficult to help them when the do get ill. All I do is make the most of my piggies and enjoy their company for as long as they are going to be here.

My guinea pig lived for eight years. He killed himself accidentally by eating a poisonous plant ... twice. We managed to save him the first time but the second time he sadly died.

We had moved the plant on a high surface so he couldn't get it but the little git managed to knock it down somehow and eat it again.

My oldest living piggie is Mimsi who is very ill at the moment, he is 8. My previous piggies have died at the ages of 3,4,5 & 6. Piggies lifespan varies but I think the average is between 4-6, but many go way beyond that yet some are taken before...

My current guineas are 3 and Monty is 6.

We have lost some young as in 12 months - these have often been 'inbred' rescue ones. Average would be about 4-5-6?

Our eldest Fudge lived until 10 - but never had another guinea live past 6.

It varies so much from what I've seen on here. Before I decided to get piggies I had no idea they could live as long as they can do. Mine are only babies, I hope they'll be here for many years to come xox

My first guinea pigs that I had as a child lived to 6 and 8.
Since then I've had one die at 1 1/2 and one at 3 during a bladder stone op (his second one).
I thought 5-8 years was an average life span.

I think it varies considerably, the average I always run across is 5-7 years on average. One of ours passed at 18 months... she had maloccluded teeth (probably genetic) and she developed a severe abscess in the root of her tooth that spread into her jawbone and then her bloodstream. She just seemed to have bad luck- what would be a mild overbite for a human was a disaster for her. My other pigs are 2.5 years and 1 year respectively. I hope they live forever!

my previous piggies died at 4, 5 and 6 years old. All from cancerous tumours. Only one was obvious however as the other two had the tumours growing inside them rather than outside. I think that they were at more risk to tumours however because they were mixed breed.
And my current piggies are only 7 months so they've got a good few years yet

My two old ones lived til 6.5 and 7 years They were outdoors all their lives and were never sick once.

My two guinea pigs are 5 and seem healthy apart from cataracts . I don't know if I would be able to tell if they were getting ill as they've always been healthy.

4-6 is what I'd say as average.
