"Mummy, you have your finger in the way!"

Reading everyone's posts about their fluffy little friends, it got me thinking how each one got their name?

Above is Gus and Walter.
Gus got his name by reminding me of the chubby brown mouse from Cinderella (I'm a 25 year old child!).
I let my OH name Walter. We had just finished watching the series Breaking Bad, so Walter White was named.
x)x)x)

My 6 got their names for the following reasons. Mother was called Maggie but after she had babies we called her Mother & the name stuck. Mousey got her name because she looked like a dormouse when we got her. Minky because of her colour. Mitch just because we wanted a different name beginning with M. Minnie & Rex already had names but Rex apparently got his name because he was a Rex. Also we had Madam who passed away in February. She was the daughter of Mother & was a right little madam, hence the name.

Before I got my piggies a friend of mine said I needed to get a big ginger one and he should be called Toby. I did like the name so when I got my 2 and one of them had more ginger in him than the other and his face was ginger then I just had to call him Toby (he is gets Tobias when in trouble). Then I had to decide what name would go with that. I am a fan of 'How I Met Your Mother' so Toby's brother was called Barney (Barnaby on naughty days).

Sorry my story isn't very exciting!

P.S. when they are really naughty they get called 'the black faced one' and 'the brown faced one'!

Maple and Pecan named after a breakfast cereal.

Rambo - she was the most adventurous, got a big mouth and always has something to say. She was named by the OH

Patch - named by my mother in law :) because of her patches :)

Lucky - she was with Rambo and Patch. Me and the OH couldn't leave her and made our hearts melt!

Our Original 2 we called Wallace & Gromit.. Then we got Tim when Gromit passed over the bridge.
Our Neutered Boar was called Ouzo in the rescue which started a theme when we introduced his wifepigs.. Morgan ( spice ), Sapphire ( Bombay Sapphire Gin ) , Tia ( Maria ). 8)8;)
Fred & Barney because we love the names. x)
Finally Ono the start of a new theme, watch this space.. ;)

I named most of mine after characters from an anime series called Axis Powers Hetalia based on personified countries.

Gilbert and Ludwig were my first two guinea pigs, named after my two favourite German characters.
Gilbert was an albino human and Gilbert my guinea pig had red eyes and was mostly white other than a small patch of blonde under his eye.
Ludwig was his younger brother so I didn't want Gilbert without Ludwig.

Then I adopted Romano and named him after the character of South Italy. Romano had long dark hair and the character himself had brown hair so it was the closest I could get.

I then got Arthur as a friend for Romano. Arthur was named after the character of England who had blonde hair and as Arthur was blonde all over with little white patches it seemed to work.

After Arthur left I then got Corey, who I never named but as he seemed to know his name I didn't want to change it. I was going to call him Ivan as he was silver and the character of Russia named Ivan had silver hair.

I then got Matthew as Romano's new friend and Matthew's former name was Mr Pig, named that only for the few weeks he was at the rescue until I got him. I named him Matthew because Romano didn't have much luck with his past two cage mates and Matthew, the character of Canada in the show was a very sweet, placid boy and I had hoped he would take after the characters namesake. The two are still together now. :)

Ludwig then sadly passed away and because I didn't want to continue naming after the same series once one of them passed away I then switched to another anime I love called 'Yugioh'

I then got Ryou who I named after a sweet young boy on the show and eventually any future piggies will be named after Yugioh, too.

I have a ginger texel called fizz (character on corrie) pebbles my peruvian (pebbles flintstone) sugar because she is horrid to the rest of them (sarcasm) and spice because it matches sugar and I got them together. My girls two are salt (white abby/himalayan) and pepper Grey and white abby, mostly peppery grey)

Mine are named Sam and Frodo after the hobbits. I'm not a huge lotr fan however I had just recently watched through the series and was rather touched by the relationship between the hobbits and felt it rather fitting for a well bonded pair of brothers :)

Rebel got his name because he is a rebel. We've had him from day one as I rescued his mammy and unbeknown to me, she was already 3 weeks pregnant. He's fearless and always off exploring the garden whilst his mam and auntie stay in the hutch, he even chases the rabbits and the cat! :))

Knew there were piggies that can chase after cats :) awesome!

I tend to have a theme or go with themes so we have an Arthurian theme with Merlin, Arthur, Hector, Trystan, Bran, Lancealot aka Charles, then we have the hobbits Pippin, Merry and Frodo, my little prince of darkness Ozzy, Games of Thrones theme with Ned and Tyrion, then randoms Spike, George, Bert, Ernie, Rupert, Winston, Gizmo and Casper. Ones I didn't name came to me with the names Fudge, Cookie and Cream.

All of my piggies have Welsh names that hopefully suit them or sound similar to their previous names, especially if they are used to them. The Tribe started when I finally was able to realise my dream of a piggy group after having been restricted to just keeping a couple of piggies at a time for several years. The founder member was a Welsh rescue called Llewelyn. My Welsh hub wanted me to keep the name, including the proper pronounciation! My piggies are mostly rehomed from rescues, except for my permanent fosters; I usually let the rescue people choose their favourite name from a short list, unless they wish me to keep close to the orginal name. All boars are neutered. My Tribe piggies in order of arrival.

Nia: bright. Ex-first lady of the Tribe.
Nerys (Nia's sister): lady. Big teddy sow, with matching appetite and personality.
Taffy: beloved. Rescued pregnant again from terrible circumstances. Developed cataracts. In need of lots of tlc, hence her name.
Telyn RIP (Taffy's rescue born last daughter): harp. With a truly ear splitting wheek and an inability to shut up as a youngster; the white aby in my avatar.
Cariad: darling; not very bright, but a dearie.
Ceri: love. Gets on with everypig.
Fflur RIP: flowers, formerly Flower; a sweet old lady.
Ffion RIP: foxglove, named in memory of Fflur; a very independent spirit.
Ffowlyn RIP (Ffion's daughter(?)): chicken; named for her distinctive bum end.
Hafina RIP: summer; a very gentle golden sow with permanently blocked tear ducts, remembered in my avatar.
Caron: loving, rescue name Carron. A coronet like Cariad and Ceri, part of a large rescue from a rat infested horrible shed. Lives now as a permanent foster with a sister of hers and their group.
Tanni: fire; a ginger peru cross with white flashes. A very skittish dumped breeder's sow that was near impossible to catch and handle at first (the reason why she escaped being bred by the worst kind of backyard breeder).
Hywel: eminent. Dominant boar for the Tribe; Llewelyn's successor.
Tegyd: Beautiful (like a) doe, formerly Mrs Taggy; a formidable cataract sow.
Terfel: oak prince, for his ginger crown; a very gentle boy chosen by Taffy and Tegyd as their new husboar.
Ffwlbri: moonlight, for her colouring. The current top sow of the Tribe.
Tesni (her sister): (sun) warmed. A true groupie!
Tegan Syndod (Tesni's daughter): beautiful surprise. Unexpected present courtesy of a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post neutering op boar. Named in memory of Telyn, whose baby name was Tegan.
Hedydd: skylark. A bolshy character, part of the "Ginger Army" rescue intake.
Heulwen (Hedydd's sister or half-sister): sunshine. A gentle girl; rescued together with her younger sister.
Ffraid: Bridget/Bride, formerly Freya. Permanent foster. Turned out to be Hedydd's mirror image.
Bethan: Betty. Permanent foster. A cheeky white cloud of joy.
Bryn Oscar RIP: hill. An old roue with a pirate's soul. Another DEW (dark eyed white) like Bethan.
Mali: Molly, formerly Nala. Another member of the cataract squad (not to be messed with!)
Hafren: Sabrina/Severn. A quiet girl who knows what she wants. Named in memory of Hafina; yet another crested ginger with white markings, now top of the Ginger Army faction.
Nesta: Agnes ("chaste" ), a spayed teddy sow. Miss ASBO, who now lives with Nerys who she resembles. Rehomed together with her companion Hafren.
PiliPala: butterfly. A little drama queen. Rescued in very bad state from a horrible place.
Papi: poppy. A tiny, timid aby, but she is coming round. Pili Pala's rescue companion and relative.
Maelog: Battle prince, formerly Mallow. Permanent foster. A smooth operator, but terrible with other boars. Bryn's successor as Mr. Elderlies Troop.
Rhosyn: rose, formerly Rosa. Permanent foster. A rather shy sow, used to live with six rabbits; Mallow's first lady.

My granddaughters name all my pets. They seem to have a fondness for food names though! The dark boy in my avatar is Hazelnut and the 2 tone boy in my avatar is Peanut Butter. They have named my salt & pepper Shi Tzu/ Maltese dog Oreo, as in the bikkie. I have photos of all 3 together but Photobucket appears to be down for maintenance at the moment.

My big boys are named Bruce aka Bruce Wayne and Oswald aka Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot (the penguin), as my bf is a huge batman fan and my newest boys are Sam and Dean Guinchester as we are both mad Supernatural fans and the main characters are Sam and Dean Winchester lol

Kasper because he is white and looks like the friendly ghost and Quinn after the grey masonry blocks (Quoin) on the side of some walls due to his colour.

Actually amazing! I'm a huge Supernatural fan...and have managed to drag the OH into it :)
We also have two rats banned Harley and Quinn...again, Batman fans haha!

Wiebke, I'm glad you posted on here. I was dying to know all your piggy names and how you choose them. I found it difficult with just the two! Wow, what a tribe you have there! If I had my own way, I'd live in a Guinea pig sanctuary. The Mr has to constantly remind me that we actually need space to walk around. Not every room can be for the pigs (especially the spare room where my snake lives because he is an escape artist.)

One of my boys is named Cas after Castiel from supernatural :)

Mine is called Pip because it's such a cute name (Mr Pip) on naughty days. Then we called the other Chip because he is the colour of a Chip of chocolate and that name goes well with Pip.

This is a really interesting thread.

Pitch RIP and Putt RIP - we were discussing what to name them (before they'd even arrived) over the park which has a pitch and putt course and we thought it was cute. They are the pigs in Mr sport Billy's avatar.

Treacle RIP, Cookie and Megan were already named by Walsall RSPCA and we thought it would confuse them to much too change them :)) treacle and cookie are my avatar.

Vimto and Sarsaparilla are named after drinks. We spent a long time arguing over what to call them, they nearly ended up as lintel and concrete. We were quite excited to be name them ourselves as Vicky (walsall rspca) was keeping them on hold for us and so hadn't named them.

When I got my pigs (bear in mind I was 12!) I was a huge fan of the Animal Ark stories; one of them called Guinea pigs in the Greenhouse involved a pig giving birth to pups in a greenhouse, and they were all named after veggies! I knew it was going to one of those names, if I remember rightly there was Pepper, Radish, Pumpkin and Carrot. When I went to the pet store we saw Pumpkin she was a round, orange fluffball so it seemed perfect. We then saw Pickles, she was nearly called Pepper but we soon discovered she's number one escape artist and pesk so she was named Pickles, as in "uh oh, Pickles in a pickle!"

That is absolute genius! If I ever get a boar I wanna name him either - Gabriel (Gabe), Garth :D hehehehe

Coco (RIP) was named this as I always wanted an animal called Coco and he was a sandy colour do it suited him.

Then I got twiglet who is dark brown with an orange coloured tuft at the front of his head so he does look just like a twiglet crisp. Mr Red is Red in colour and has gorgeous red eyes so I called him Mr. Red, it so suits him.

All my animals get called after food/drink or nature names. We have 4 chickens called storm, cloud, mango and caramac and a kitten called Caffrey, after the beer

Hamish- Was named because i wanted a piggie with a scottish name
Orla and Electra- we got those 2 piggies for our birthday and my o/h and i were born under the star sign Taurus and those two name were names of stars in the Taurus constellation.
Terri- she is ginger and brown and we thought she was like a terry's chocolate orange
June- as we got her the same time as Terri then we would have Terry and June(Terry Scott and June Whitfield) which i watched during the 80's.
Oliver- as he would look at me whenever he had finished his food as if to say please can i have some more from Oliver Twist
Poppet-she got this name because when we first got her she would popcorn all over her cage(pop, pop, pop lol)

Jaffa - because he's chocolate and orange and was supposed to be called Jaffacake. I usually call him Jiff Jaff.

Lilypad - because I like watching How I Met Your Mother!

Toots - is very nosey and I'd originally called her 'Hooter' as I was trying to think of a funny name for a nose. It just got shortened to 'Toots' instead.

My first piggy was called Connie. We adopted her with that name and decided to keep it.

We then adopted Eliza and my hubby chose her name.

When Connie sadly died, we adopted 'Lilac girl'. Hubby renamed her Eleanor as he liked the name.

We then wanted to add another piggy and along came Betsy. To stick with the E theme, hubby renamed her Erin.

As much as I loved having a trio, Erin was often left out so I decided to adopt a fourth piggy and Sophie came along. My in laws paid the donation for my birthday and I said they could choose her name so long as it stuck with our E theme. They decided on Ena after Ena Sharples from Coronation Street as Ena had wild fur.

When we sadly lost Eleanor, I decided to adopt neutered boar Bambo but true to form, my hubby changed his name to Enoch after his late uncle.

When we sadly lost Erin and Ena very close to each other, I wasn't going to have anymore piggies but I was then pointed in the direction of Rosie and Charlotte. I missed my E theme so thanks to hubby, Rosie became Emma and Charlotte became Erika.
