Help plz! Potential dental and urinary issue

it was just i suffer some mental health issues that makes getttinf around hard and we dont have a car, i had to phone a taxi which wasnt cheap
I am sorry to hear that and hope you have some support in place apart from all of us on here 💐 what area do you live in? X

Will his teeth grow back though eventually I assume they will 🤔

They should but it depends on how far the break is. if the vet has said to consider the options in a weeks time given potential other health issues, then they may not grow back enough in that time

Do you think it seems a bit hasty to suggest PTS without giving him more of a chance? 🤔

That's fantastic, by the sea lovely that can be very therapeutic in its self 🌊🌊🌊
Well take a little time to get your thoughts together now 🌞
thank u, me, benny and his partner buster will likely watch some vids/movie later tonight as i give him his last dose for the day of antibiotics and snuggles..

to be honest i thought so too but i mean.. they r the professional, all i can do is suggest trying an alternative route, just to rule those possible solutions out

If it is a simple UTI, then a course of antibiotics (which actually could need to be longer than a week) should cure it. Teeth will hopefully grow back.
Going on that alone I would think PTS is a bit hasty but we dont know what else the vet is seeing as to why they suggested it. They may have made a quality of life assessment. We obviously only have the information spirtwolf can provide to us, we aren't vets, and as we all appreciate, being in the vets with a poorly pet is an emotional time for anyone. If they then suggest PTS it completely throws you and you have trouble thinking and remembering everything that was said. We may not be getting all information the vet took into consideration so it is difficult for us to comment really.

See how much syringe feed you can get into him, see how he goes and take it from there. One day at a time. He will let you know if he is improving or whether he has had enough.

I lost my elderly rabbit coming up two years ago now. He still had a zest for life, was eating and hopping about as best an elderly arthritic bunny could do but I still had to make the decision to let him go because his QoL was only going downwards. On the bare face of it, he could have lived a bit longer being partially sighted (blind in one eye, cataract in the other). He was on pain meds for his arthritis (albeit top whack by the end). These things could have been managed and given he was still eating etc we could have continued with him. But when you throw in that his immune system was failing and mites were becoming an issue, add it all together and his quality of life wasn't there and was only depleting further. It was kindest to let him go.

I'm so srry to hear that.. I'm sure your bunny was amazing, never owned a bun myself but ik someone with a few and they r rlly sweet lil things,

but yea.. literally all that was rlly said was he could have a UTI.. she didnt rule out the chance of a tumour... but again he was too old to rlly be put to sleep to get a through examination done.. she felt around his groin area and stomach and said she couldnt feel any stones.. she did say there could be summit linked with his kidney.. and his weight was worrying.. and she couldnt check his back teeth, and she couldnt do the surgery to clean them to check due to worry he wouldnt make it through the surgery.. i was given antibiotics for in case of an infection... and selective science recovery liquid food was suggested... thats fr all that was said.. no pain meds for his groin pain or anything... i chose not to put him down cause 1. my sister would fr beat me and deny me from seeing my niece.. 2. if it is just a bad uti... then i can bring his weight back up and hopefully those teeth do grow back.. they didnt entirely break off, can def still c a bit of them there, if he continues to go downhill then i will phone up and do whats best.. i was prepared going into the vets to get the worst news but still didnt stop me from breaking down when she left to go get the meds and everything.. she also did say the front teeth were used for nibbling and the back teeth for actual chewing.. and his heart rate was normal.. so its not rlly a breathing problem or heart related.. i guess all i can do is weigh daily and keep up with his meds, and food intake.. thank u again for all your help tho.. it means alot

If you click on the green link on my post it should come up.

Try and see if he will eat plain dry porridge oats
ill try him on that, should have some in the cupboards! so far hes not eating anything solid.. not greens,, or treats that r soft... he tries but gives up like he wants to but just cant.. kinda like hes lost hope.. instead hes trying to eat my pillow more than the food.. i managed to get a bit of banana into him but not much.. i gave the bits he refused to his partner and my rats... hes also happily grooming himself here and there so hes still trying to keep himself clean

Ring the vets if you can and ask for some pain relief, metacam type anti inflammatory pain relief should help.
Unfortunately guinea pigs have a tendency to lose heart trying to eat, it knocks their confidence and they are included to stop trying to eat.

ive got him snuggled up with me, hes not had a poo the entire time... vet said he wasnt impacted so i guess its lack of food.. other than that hes snuggled into my neck dozing off only occasionally stirring to groom.. ill try phone them again tomoz bout the pain meds..

Maybe with some painkillers he’d be able to eat more. He’s probably sore.
yea.. quite possible.. def summit ill bring up with the vets in the morning they closed a few hrs ago.. he and his brother oddly lick me from time to time i just gave him a soft peck and he licked the tip of my nose... honestly hes so sweet... he deserves the world

How much syringe feed in ml are you getting into him in each 24 hour period?

What have his weights been for the last few mornings (if you could type out an actual list of what each weight each morning has been then we may be able to help)

i dont have proper scales so they dont show all the numbers, todays and yesterdays stayed between 550 to 600.. the scales dont rlly have numbers between that I'm in need to get new ones
and my other scales dont go past 500.. my electric scales arent working.. i have baby scales around somewhere but i think hes too light for those
i ordered a mortar and pestle to help me kinda grind stuff down for him

also just remembered my vet said i should give him only 10g of critical care a day the uh.. science selective recovery herbis, and 35ml of warm water... can i ask how much powder stuff with water should i use? cause everyones saying 60ml a day but my vet said 35ml.. rn hes trying to eat some greens, I'm also going to check his front teeth every now and then to c if they r growing or not even tho its a slow process

You feed a minimum of 60ml (when it is mixed up with water) per day but he could need as much as 100ml per day (that is the equivalent of what a healthy piggy would eat). 40ml is only just enough to keep them alive but it won’t maintain their weight hence why you need 60ml minimum.
The weight checks are your guide as to how much you feed.

You use enough water to make it the consistency needed to go through the syringe.

It is so important that you have scales that measure properly. With your scales only measuring in 50g increments you aren’t going to have any idea whether he is getting enough - not until he loses too much weight for it to drop down to the next bracket. Gaining 50g in weight with syringe feed could take weeks so you still won’t know if he is getting enough.

it sounds complicated.. but yea, got scales so ill measure him in a few mins once I'm done giving him another bit of the syringe feed

hes refusing to eat hay tho.. or grass

Yes that is why you need to syringe feed him. The syringe feed replaces the hay intake he isn’t eating for himself. That is also why he needs so much syringe feed - hay is 75% of their daily food intake so you need to syringe feed a lot. Every 2-3 hours depending on how much he takes at each sitting

You need to feed him as much as he will take at each sitting until it totals at least 60ml per day.
So if he takes 10ml at each sitting then you need to feed him six times a day.
If he takes 5ml at each sitting then you need to feed him 12 times a day.

You cannot feed him and then weigh him - it’ll be totally inaccurate. You’ll just be weighing his full stomach.
You need to weigh him first thing each morning before his first feed of the day. That is the only true representation of whether he ate enough the day before. Then don’t weigh him again until the next morning at the same time.

oooooh alr no it makes more sense, thank u!
It will be ok just take a deep breath it can be overwhelming can't it 💙
The critical you give him is instead of the hay to keep his weight up and keep his digestive system working x
thank u.... your so kind and yea.. kinda stressing but in the end its worth it 🤍
