Help Please :(

I'm not sure what the antibiotics they are I will ask tomorrow morning about them when I go pick them up.
Toast's pee was dilute as in she's drinking too much water..
Toast has always drank quite a lot more water than Beans and has done since I got them a year ago.

I was told to give the medication for a week I believe, then get another urine sample to see if there's been a change.
If there's no change I believe that is when the xray would be done. Does this sound accurate?

Is there anything I can expect to happen to Toast whilst on the antibiotics? Is she going to go off her food or act differently?
I'm so worried for her I feel sick :(

This sounds sensible to me. Not every infection responds to every antibiotic either but trying one first will give them an idea what is going on and if they feel nothing is improving then they can potentially culture to check which antibiotic any infection is most sensitive to and then change what you have. An X-ray will help rule out any stones and may give an indication of the presence of any mass or tumour although ultrasound can also be useful to check for masses or thickening of the bladder walls caused by longer term irritation (interstitial cystitis where there is chronic or on/off inflammation and irritation of the bladder but no infection present).

Hopefully they have also given you some pain relief to help things settle down too as lots of these potential problems can make your girl uncomfortable which doesn't help appetite either. @Wiebke has given some excellent advice re antibiotics. Baytril is most commonly prescribed as it is both licensed for small animal use and also broad enough spectrum to treat many common infections. Unfortunately it is one that can cause more tummy problems than some others so the probiotic is a great idea. Other antibiotics are good too but all have their up and down sides as with any medication. They all work on some bugs better than others...

Hope she is feeling perkier soon!

I picked up Toast's prescription this morning.
Baytril 2.5% 100ml
And Fibreplex 15ml.

Does anyone have any tips as how to give this to a piggy with a syringe?
Toast is a very jittery nervous pig I don't think she's going to sit nicely for this...

Complete Syringe Feeding Guide
Is a good guide.

When I had to give one of my guineas baytril, I found giving it to her by syringe really hard, so I put the baytril in watermelon and held her on my lap until she ate it all. My vet suggested mixing baytril with blackcurrant to disguise the taste, but we found watermelon the best 'carrier'!

Thank you.
I really struggled to get it into her mouth and from her reaction it must have tasted awful. She was using her paws to wipe it from her mouth. I feel awful for putting her though that she seemed so distressed :(

Do you think I should try putting some into a blueberry or something? She really fought the syringe and it spilled out her mouth onto her beard (she's longer haired)
And the Fibreplex is very thick she didn't care for it one bit...

We usually do syringe feeding as a two handed approach unless we have a dead laid back piggy (dear old Mr Ted RIP was a model patient but the others hate it). Have you got anyone who can hold her while you put the syringe in? If not, can you try wrapping her in a towel to keep her still. It's tough love, I'm afraid.

Baytril is utterly vile. I know. I've tasted it before by accident. And my piggies have also pushed the syringe away. You can mix it with a drop,of neat ribena and I have also found dipping the tip of syringe in neat ribena before putting it into the mouth can really help as they can taste something nice before you inject the horrid Baytril. I've not injected it into food as I suspect they may taste it and refuse to eat it. Syringe administering is the safest way to get the whole dose into her.

I don't think she got the whole.1ml of baytril into her this morning but I didn't try again as I was afraid I'd over do it. That was the first time I've ever had to administer medication to an animal so I wasn't quite prepared for how hard it would be.
Do you think I should have given more baytril or just left it as is and be better prepared tomorrow?

I have my mum who can hold her swaddled in a towel and I'll use one hand to open her mouth and the other to feed.
I'll try dropping a bit of diluting juice into the syringe also to make it taste better.
The probiotic is very thick and gritty, is there a way to make this any more appetising for her?

I'm really concerned about Toast's weight.
On 6th March she weighed 1169g.
On 13th March she weighed 1186g.
On 16th March she weighed 1205g.
Today she weighs 1241g.

That's a weight increase of 72g in the space of 12 days, and 36g in the space of 2 days...
Am I over reacting to this weight increase? She has not being getting any more food than she always has, and is not pregnant.
