Help Needed - Piggie Dragging Back Feet & Maybe Uti?

Ok, so I've kept up the glucosamine but no changes yet, been doing 125mg per day so when it gets to 2 weeks I will up the dose to see what difference it makes. Pig is doing ok, weight stable, still dragging back legs and not moving about much.

Thanks for all the help, I will update if we get any breakthroughs :)

Is he still on pain relief?

Sorry, didn't see your message before, yes still on pain relief. I've got him on the cat loxicom 0.05mls twice a day. I've increased the glucosamine to 250mg per day and it's helping him, he doesn't look so rickety when he is moving about. He is definitely happier and I'm just encouraging him to move as much as possible. I temporarily separated him from his cage mate and they're back in together now. His weight is stable amd i think overall it's the best i coukd hope for. Knowing he can move about the cage to get himself food and water is a big comfort, i worried he was sitting there hungry and sore during the day when I'm at work.

All in all, massive improvements since the summer, i really thought i might have to put him down as he was suffering and it seemed like no end in sight.

Thanks everyone on here for your advice and kind words, it helped me so much.

I'll update if any other improvements or tips i can pass on.

:)

Hi everyone!

Pig is now able and willing to hobble about much more and i am just so happy he is back to himself. I have him on glucosamine everyday and he now tries to run away when i lift him - this is how I know he is much better, haha!

I was away for a couple of nights unexpectedly and he didn't get his dose of loxicom... He was fine when I came back so after keeping a close eye on him for a couple of weeks i have cut it out completely - he is just on the glucosamine.

Things i have learned from having a sick baby :

Keep syringes for feeding in the house, don't wait until you need them.
Food is key. Force feeding isn't nice but you have to be cruel to be kind at times. I would recommend everyone to syringe feed their pigs every once in a while, just a little bit, even if they are fine - just means if the time comes and you HAVE to do it, it's not as stressful for you or the babies.
They LOVE mushed up pellets and warm water, the warmer the better.
Vets unfortunately, over in Belfast anyway, just aren't knowledgeable enough about Guinea pigs. You need to do your homework and ask members for advice.

DON'T GIVE UP HOPE!

I honestly thought my baby was a goner but he is doing so well and i could not be happier!

Thanks everyone xx

Glad he's doing better! Poor little guy!
