Hay was stuck in the corner of Elvis's eye- do I need to go to the vet?

Just to make you feel really good Dennis, Betsy, Christian and Meg just sit there and let me put eye drops in. Have yet to find out how Pretty Patsy will react.

Can he please come and teach Gundham that they're really not that bad. Gundham has a nasty tendency to toss his head about just as I'm about to drop it in so the bottle hits him on the head, nearly poked his eye out a few times with that little trick. not to mention the amount of times he's shaken the eye drops all over me as soon as they touch him.

After a promising start Elvis has decided he'd rather play catch me if you can than let me pick him up 2 minutes or so 🤦🏼‍♀️ It took me about half an hour to catch him the other day! And he's also taken up the habit of closing his eye at the exact moment the drop drops. He does like to be difficult 🤣 At least he doesn't toss his head all over the place @Sweet Potato 🤣🤣

Hi everyone just a little update in Elvis.
Saturday morning was the end of his course of eye drops but on Sunday I saw him squinting his eye a bit and yesterday it was a little watery (not as much as before but still watery). I emailed the vets and they said to use the ointment as prescribed before and if we don't see improvement in 24hrs of restarting the medicine they want to see him again.

I've been at school so I haven't been able to check throughout the day but it looks fine at the moment (thanks for asking 😊). I'll keep having a look now I'm home but my worry is that because the squinting/ watering isn't constant and doesn't last very long it'll look fine this evening and I'll think I can stop the eye drops again and then he'll squint it again tomorrow...

Last night I emailed the vet and they want to try him on a different medication for a few days. It isn't ready yet so I'll out the current one in tonight and tomorrow morning until my mum can pick the new one up from the vets. I really hope this sorts it out for him

Is the vet going to give Elvis Chloramphenicol? or Remend? When Meg had her really bad haypoke she had both plus viscotears (eye lubricant gel - so much cheaper than lubrithal from the vet - does the same job and is available from Pharmacies 5 quid instead of over 17 quid!) for 5 weeks before her haypoke cleared up.

I don't remember what the vet called it on the phone but I'll be able to check when we pick it up later 🙂

I've had a bit of a confusing 2 days to be honest... The vets never called us to say Elvis's medicine was ready but I hadn't seen any squinting or watering since Tuesday so I didn't think the new medicine was needed anymore so this morning I didn't give him his medicine. But now I've just seen Elvis squint his eye again. I still haven't got a call off the vets so I think I'll have to phone up or email to ask about the new medicine again

Best wishes to Elvis x Is it possible that there's a tiny hayseed/shard stuck in his eye somewhere instead of/aswell as the conjunctivitis? I know eye issues are a general problem that all vets should be able to deal with, but in my experience some vets are a lot better than others at this. It might be worth trying to get an appointment with one of the other vets for a second opinion?

:agr: sometimes the seed head/ hay can be pretty well hidden and even the tiniest piece can cause some irritation. We have our piggie seen by an eye specialist rather than a piggie specialist if we're unsure about hay pokes.

When the vet saw Elvis right at the beginning she checked for anything still stuck in his eye so he should be all good there 🙂

Today was supposed to be when Elvis's different medicine was ready but now I've been told the vets want to see Elvis before they give us any more medicine but the next appointment I could have was Thursday so I'll be continuing the current medicine again until Thursday. His eye isn't getting worse but it's not getting better 🙁

Hi everyone. I've just got back from the vets. While Elvis was there he showed no signs of squinting, discomfort in that eye or discharge. She also double checked if anything was still in the eye that could irritate it and there was nothing. From what I described that I've seen (squinting a few times a week but for only a couple of minutes at a time with very little and now no discharge) she decided it would be fine to take him off the medicine and just moniter to make sure it doesn't get worse. If or when I do see him squint I will bathe the eye with salt water to make sure it's clean. I'm very relieved he's ok and hopefully this means he can get one his his little piggy life without having horrible stuff shoved in his eye 😊
