Harry has severe, sudden onset diarrhoea

Oh I’m so sorry to hear this. Sending love and kindness your way.

I am so very sorry for your loss. It seems that the rainbow bridge has called far too many piggies in the past few days. Sending you big hugs.

RIP Harry and popcorn free across the rainbow bridge. xx

I’m so sorry you’ve Lost Harry, he was such a handsome little man, it’s so shocking when one minute they are popcorning and then suddenly so poorly, sending hugs x
Sleep tight little Harry 🌈

Please, don't blame yourself. They really can go from happy piggies to emergency situations in space of hours/minutes. I've lost one of my boys to sudden diahhorhea few years back. He was fine and when I went to tuck them in one hour later I found liquid literally bubbling from his bottom. He was still trying to eat and didn't look bothered! All vet had time to find was he had increased numbers of protozoa in his stool sample. Even with emergency care and hospitalisation he passed away. I've noticed he was giving up and asked vet to let him go. He deteriorated within seconds, I believe he was waiting for me to hold him one last time❤

It's very hard not to get the answers we need to grieve and make sense of what happened.
Pets are a blessing, but God do they break your heart when they leave.
Wishing you all the best x

😪😪 Ah no, I'm so sorry that little Harry didn't make it. What a shock for you
My thoughts are with you at this sad time.

Rest in Peace, Harry, popcorn free 🌈

Thank you for all of your good wishes, and sorry I didn't come back to update sooner.
Sadly Harry didn't make it.

Actually in the end we didn't even make it to the vet.
I was getting ready to leave and he was in his carrier on the chest in the hallway.
I went to check on hime one last time to make sure he was comfortable before putting him in the car, and it was obvious he was already fairly far gone.
I picked him up and he was floppy and unresponsive, so I sat down and held him wrapped in his blanket.
Less than 5 minutes later he squeaked, shuddered a couple of times, and passed away in my arms.

I am in absolute pieces about it.
He was only 3 years old, and went from eating, popcorning and wheeking to dying in less than 6 hours.

I took him to the vet this morning for them to arrange cremation, and the vet was kind enough to come and have a chat with me.
She suspects it was some form of serious underlying issue that cause major multiple organ failure, and that in turn caused his whole system to simply shut down. She did say that given how quickly he deteriorated despite clearly being in good condition, she doubts we could have saved him.

Sleep tight Harry 😢

BIG HUGS

I am ever so sorry. A natural death can happen very suddenly; especially in older piggies right out of the blue. They are just very ill of a sudden and that's it. It is always very upsetting and can be traumatising for the owner, especially when you have never experienced a natural death before.. :(

When you mentioned that Harry was cold to your touch I was worried that his body was already shutting down and that the diarrhea was simply a side effect of whatever has been going wrong. My own guess as to what has happened matches your vet's. It is lovely however that they have taken the time to speak to you and help you with trying to make sense of what has just happened - which is something that can really throw you. Nothing you have done wrong or could have done to prevent it. It was simply his time... :(

Please try to take comfort in that Harry's end has just come in a few short hours of discomfort and that he could make his own way to the Rainbow Bridge. As deaths go, it was one of the easier ones with most of the upset on your side and not his - and in the end, that is what we would choose if we had this option.

Sorry to hear that Harry didn't make it. Having lost my 2 boys this week I know how hard it is when they leave us for The Rainbow Bridge. The Rainbow Bridge has been calling lots of piggies in the past few days. May all of them be popcorning free and having a lovely time at The Bridge.

I’m so very sorry to read this. Sleep tight beautiful Harry xx
