Hannah’s Herd thread!

Summer is here..finally!
All the animals are doing well.
Nothing much to report, I turned 31 last week! Shock!
I’m trying to convince Jon to let me rescue a piggy from the rspca that I’ve seen online..
I’m not organised for Christmas. And quite frankly..I have no motivation atm!
I actually rode Lucy the other day, first time in a long while!

You are very skilled with your pottery ….Mary is lovely …..new business ?

Newton had a little vet trip today as he’s been making a strange breathing noise each morning when I give breakfast, it was only today that I could confirm it was definitely coming from him! He is absolutely fine in himself, popcorning, eating, drinking etc. no discharge. Phoned the vet expecting next available appointment to be in a couple of weeks but to my surprise they had one available today! Aaron, my trusty specialist vet is on holiday but they booked me in with their other ‘exotic’ vet who I’ve seen a couple of times.
Anyway, He couldn’t see or hear anything wrong with Newton (as I expected). Which is great. So just put him on a course of antibiotics and metacam for 2 weeks just to be on the safe side incase there is a little infection going on somewhere undetected.
It’s strange because I only ever hear it in the mornings!
I not freaking out, he’s acting fine. But I can’t help but notice that this is how Opal started acting weird. The same sort of noise.. But Opal apparently was a rare cancer so I’ll try to not think like that!

Ah I hope it’s nothing with Newton and the abs sort it anyway !
Beautiful photos 🥰

Woohooo! We finally have taken the fireplace out of the pig room which means more space and better cage arrangements!

..well ignore the fact we still have a hole in the roof that’s covered with a towel..

The hole will be covered asap. Then next step is painting, putting up shelves and shortening the lead on the aircon . but I’m just SO pleased to finally have a better space for the cages!

It was clean out day and weigh and pamper.
Here is little petite Olive being weighed. She’s soo tiny compared to the others

What lovely photos,i hope the extra space from removing the fire helps.Does it get very cold in the winter months ?

Hello all! I’ve had a relatively busy last few weeks, The piggies are all okay. Though I am off to the vets with Olive tomorrow as she was squeaking while going to the toilet last week. I haven’t noticed any squeaking over the weekend and she’s eating, drinking and acting fine so I’m unsure whether to take her tomorrow as I’m trying a new vet practice that hasn’t got a piggy/exotic specialist, So I’m just not sure if I should just wait until my appointment with Aaron (my exotic vet) on the 22nd of March. (The nearest appointment available!) But of course don’t want to risk waiting if she has stones or something!
Also, Maude decided to give herself a splendid hay poke last night. I got it out and applied jel but it’s still pretty cloudy today so I will probably have to take her along to my appointment tomorrow too!

We started decorating the piggy room today, woohooo! So the pigs have been moved to the spare room for a few days..spare room/storage/horse room/tool room haha!.. we don’t have a secure lock up outside so this room is a bit of everything until we get around to furnishing and decorating it!

I have decided to try and get Binki, one of my horses saddle started as it’s about time! He was ready about 3 years ago! I’m just slack! So fingers crossed I can keep my motivation and hopefully I can have my first sit on him soon! For now, lots of ground and prep work. He’s an awesome boy! He loves learning!

We had an amazing few days away in Sydney last weekend, Jons mum and Auntie were stopping over on a cruise! So it was an absolutely wonderful way to see them, we took them to the Blue mountains and a bus tour around Sydney. Was sad and amazing to wave them off back on their cruise.

What a lovely time you had in Sydney and a good excuse for Jon's Mum and Auntie to go on a cruise!.

I love the way that Binki is looking at the saddle on his back thinking "WTF is THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"

Is that him laughing too? That picture is priceless!

It really was lovely, 1. We got to see family and 2. We got to go on holiday!
Though..it was only 1 hour flight but my fear of flying is getting worse, I had a near panic on the flight home. I just couldn’t stop crying with fear!

Hahaa it does look like that in the photo 🤣 But he was however looking at his friends on the paddock :xd:
That is him ‘laughing’ too. He is quite the character!

Maude and Olive went to the vets on Monday, Olive presented well but we will put her on a course of antibiotics in case of UTI.
Maude didn’t ulcer her eye with her hay poke, so just some antibiotic eye drops to help clear her eye up. Already looking better today.

On the horsey side of my life, if anyone’s interested. I am quite chuffed with my boy Binki. I had my first *almost* sit on him on Tuesday! He’s had a saddle on many times, and we have been doing basic ground work for a few years now. And on Tuesday I felt like it was a good time for a first sit. And when I say ‘felt like a good time’ …it was actually not a good time at all because.. I was all by myself, we had about 10 March/horse flies biting and irritating us and the other horses were surrounding Binki and I!
But he was amazing! I am so proud! I spent about 20 minutes on the mountain block preparing him and finally and slowly put my leg up and on! I did this a few times, I didn’t quite take my full weight off the block with my left foot as as I said, I was all alone on the property. But I was bloody close and so tempted! He was so relaxed and calm about it all. I’m so pleased and can’t wait to do it again soon.
I’ve also come to realise that I think he’s older than I thought, I thought he was roughly 7 years old. But by looking at his teeth I think he might be 10-11.
He was(is) a wild Brumby, caught about 6 years ago so I will never know his exact age.
He acts like a big goofy but sensible youngster whatever his age!

Hello!
Summer is just about clinging on, it’s been warm and hot this past week, We’re now in Autumn.. I’m absolutely dreading winter!
I posted on another thread that we finally re-decorated the piggy room. I'm quite chuffed with it and really enjoying being in there with the pigs.
Olive has been soldiering through some bladder type troubles the past few weeks, but she’s doing really well. She has a vet appointment next week.
The horses are all good, I haven’t done much with them the past couple of weeks. It’s ‘March fly’ (horse fly) season, which is the worst. Huge flies that bite and irritate the horses. We’re looking forward to hopefully getting some rain soon to grow some grass back into the paddocks.
The rest of the animals are all good too. Though Fergus seems to have hurt himself since yesterday, he won’t jump onto the sofa/bed which is unlike him. He’s acting anxious and has yelped a few times. We will take him to the vets tomorrow afternoon if we can get an appointment.
All the squeaks got weighed last week!
Combined I have around 6600 grams worth of PIG..haha!

Absolutely LOVE all the Corellas around my place at the moment, here is a large flock pecking around for seeds left behind from my horses hay. Note the magpies not letting them in ‘their’ circle lol!

Can you believe it! Jon surprised me by cleaning my pigs out yesterday while I was at work! I was suppose to do it Friday but was too tired and headachey after I finished work, so I said I’ll do it tomorrow when I get home from work. And to my surprise he did it all for me on Saturday! He’s a good egg! I was so happy 😀
(Still needed sweeping and tidying when I took the photo, he hadn’t quite finished when I got home)

Everyone is happy and well. Olive seems to have recovered from her UTI.

Next up with have Mrs Mary!
I noticed a beautiful large Rex guinea in a garage/petshop (weird combination lol). I instantly fell in love with her but told myself NO. I’m not even a resident in Aus yet. I went back 2 more times and she was still there..It was just before Christmas and I was told she’d been there for 2/3 months I just HAD to bring her home. The next morning I went back to get her.
They didn’t have much info on her, but I did recall the lady telling me she is an ex-breeding sow. I recon she was about 2 years old.
I named Mary after my mother, which my mum is delighted about :))
Mary (the pig, not my mum!) Has a funny personality. She’s the top sow of the girls but an easy going soul. She doesn’t like to cause problems in the herd, but is quietly the big boss. She doesn’t enjoy being picked up and squeaks in resistance. And kicks out at your hand! She’ll bite you when you’re trying to cut her nails. But other than that she’s a big softy with a goofy floppy lip.
She has an eye condition called entropion which I closely monitor and put drops in. She may one day need surgery.
Marys best friend was Spike, her husboar whom very sadly passed away a few months ago. We both miss him deeply.
She now has a new boarfriend (neutered of course) called Patrick. They get along well. But he does like to hump her a lot more than she’d like.
Mary loves grass time and floortime, and her favourite pastime is to drink from her own private water bottle (the others don’t like it!). And then have a nap in her favourite soft spot, her homemade bed.

Hello!
We’re in Autumn now with winter on its way, grass is growing which means the piggos can get hand picked grass.
I feel like Olive has come back out of her shell recently, I guess I hadn’t noticed how quiet she’d been since losing her big sister Opal, and also battling with the UTI way before I think I realised. She hadn’t come out for floor time for such a long time, she’d just poke her nose out and then stay in the cage. However the past couple of weeks she’s actually been coming out for floor time and exploring and enjoying her little self. I'm really happy to see her confidence is back and that she’s doing okay.

Grass time:

Olive and Newtons house:
Olive ‘ding-ding-…-ding-ding’ on the water bowl. It’s so cute, everytime she drinks she dings on the water bowl with her teeth between drinking. Never know another pig to do this, it’s her funny little habit which always makes me smile.
