I haven't seen very much of this online, but my guinea pigs really like certain songs and I don't know why. Sometimes I put on video game soundtracks for studying, and they rumble really loudly if they like a song, and certain points. A specific song my pigs like is this Donkey Kong country song An odd example, today I was watching an Instagram real and that dontcha wish your girlfriend was hot like me song came on and one of my pigs, Leilei began to rumble so loudly!

You may find Wiebke’s explanation at post #2 in the thread linked below useful.

Piggies rumbling to certain music

Thank you! Yes I do remember reading this, but for me, the music actually calms down my pigs, they don't seem annoyed, they'll lie down and go to bed, or relax against me and rumble/purr? The intensity depends on if they really like a song, or I find a new song they like. I was curious if maybe anyone else had experienced this!

My boys are the complete opposite they absolutely hate music especially if it comes from a phone! I get gruuuuuu and they will hide until it stops! 😂

Hi, it is lovely if your piggies can relax to music with you but from your description and having listened to the Donkey Kong song, sadly I doubt this is what's happening. Rumbling in response to sound is a warning contact call to other piggies that there is a possible danger. Other pigs will often reply and stay very still until the perceived danger passes or if they become more spooked they may run away or seek cover in a hidey. It is not that they are annoyed by the music, more that they are worried by it. The Donkey Kong track contains a lot sounds that sound like bells or a tambourine rattle. These types of jingling sounds are well known to alarm piggies.
The best way to tell if your piggies are happy with the music you play is if they don't actually show much of a response to it but carry on doing their piggy things as usual. It maybe that there is certain music that is soothing to them, I believe there have been studies of dogs in kennels that show they find classical music the most calming.

Tomie rumbles at buttons clicking, people sneezing, anything that beeps. Last week one of my kids had a cold and I felt bad for both of them, she would sneeze and them Tomie would chastise her by purring at her. Tomie likes her humans QUIET! LOL! She doesn't seem to care much about TV noise but she hates beeping/clicking/coughing/sneezing.
