New Born Pup
I am new to having piggies and were wondering what was the best to have in cage to stop boredom as one of my piggies is always looking for something to do and the other not so much and gets bothered by him ha
Ours grew too big for the ones we had, although they once managed to be in it simultaneously when taken to the vet and it was very difficult to get them out of it!Hay cubesView attachment 260894 are very popular too. Mischievous Master Boris enjoys sleeping in them.
Yours looks bigger than the one we got, yes.Sir George at 1300g still manages to squeeze himself in!View attachment 260896
I'd be scared my fatsos got stuck in those tubes. So I'd advise just to be aware of the sizes of the tubes from carpet shops as I think they can vary.If you go to a local carpet shop and ask if they have any spare cardboard tubes they will often give you a massive one for free that you can cut down into different lengths rather than spending £2 for 10cm of tubing at a pet shop. Piggies really do love this sort of cardboard tubing and you can stuff it full of hay and forrage for extra enrichment.
Wow. I've never met a piggie yet that doesn't love a carrot cottage. Mine are too lazy to work out the haypigs ball.Carrot cottages and Hay Cubes don't go down well with my current gang, the 2 oldies prefer cardboard boxes stuffed with hay. The others like them for a few hours then go off them. Fizz jumped on top of a hay cube and tipped it over sending him flying so that was the end of that!
I recently bought a couple of the Hay Pigs Balls to put their pellets in. I tried them out on all the boys, only Freddie got it, Timmy now copies him and they love them. When F&F joined us I got a Trixie one to try (cheaper), it's not so good with only 0ne slot but they do share it well and wait their turn. One rolls it along and the other pounces on the pellet.
I would also recommend a carrot cottage (most guinea pigs love them and ours will get another as a christmas present). They can hide inside and also eat the cardboard but the carrot topping is always the first to disappear. Eventually it makes a good boat as well.
We bought toys for ours at first but they weren't interested at all.
We'd love to see pigtures of your piggies too!
Good point all the tubes I've had would be plenty big enough for any piggie but I have seen smaller ones aboutI'd be scared my fatsos got stuck in those tubes. So I'd advise just to be aware of the sizes of the tubes from carpet shops as I think they can vary.
