hi - first post here - post specifically because of this... I know that care questions should go in the "care section", but I couldn't find it?
I have a 1.5ish year old sow (got her as a baby November 2010), who has been amazing and wonderful and perfect and who hasn't had any health problems before, but just now when she was sitting in my lap she started spasming, or something like a spasm...
Nothing I’m Googling is coming up with anything and I’m really scared right now.
She was all tensed up, her back was arched (sort of like a cat’s, if that makes any sense) and she was twitching - it slowed down to very violent hiccups sort of? Also towards the end there was a pained-sounding squeak. The whole thing maybe lasted 15-30 seconds? I was freaking out so I don’t have the best gauge of time.
It stopped, and now she’s curled up in my lap, in a small ball and she’s not purring or anything like she usually is, and I might just be reading into her facial expressions too much because I’m freaked out right now, but she doesn’t look great.
She gets enough vitamin C, food, etc. I don’t know if she’s eating normally now because I’m afraid to move her, and with her on my lap it’s difficult to get up to get food to feed her. I had my last guinea pig for eight years and never had anything like this happen.
I'm hoping to take her to a vet tomorrow (since it's 10pm where I am right now), but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about what this might be, and whether or not she'll be okay - the one story I could find online about a guinea pig experiencing something like this ended with the guinea pig dying hours later, and I really don't want that to be the case.
Clearly, I am freaking out right now. I might've already said that.
Thanks!
