Guinea pig singing/chirping

Has anyone experienced it? My eldest, Treacle does it quite often, she done it the day before another guinea pig passes (Fudge, Patch, & Tickles previous furries), or when worried.. When I Hear her, I tend to worry, as it's a bit like the Scottish folklore, of the Banshee...
 
Does it sound like bird-song? If so, yes, I've heard it about half a dozen or so times. Of these I know for certain that twice it was Willow, so I'm kinda guessing it was her the other times too :)

People aren't really sure what this sound means. Most say it is complete pleasure, others say it's a worry call, but with this one we can only guess!

I'm pretty sure (and hopeful) it's a happy noise. The first time Willow made it she had just been put back in her hutch after play-time. Some other times it has also happened in the middle of the night. Although in Treacle's cases, I just don't know :...

I do know that you are quite blessed though. Many people have pigs for years and don't hear this lovely sound :)

She's done it a couple of times lately, first thing in the morning, and on these occasions, I think she's doing it because she's happy.. chirping could mean a number of things, as is rumbling and strutting..
It does sound like a bird chirping:))
 
It's weird isn't it?! The first time I heard it our other piggie, Pippa just froze and kinda looked at Willow to make sure she was okay. Once she'd finished her song though, Willow just shook her head and headed for her nuggets rolleyes

I think Pippa was as shocked as I was :))
 
I've always wanted to hear my piggies do this song, so your very lucky:)
 
Yersh both mine sing, esp when i bring them indoors, although Artie seems to prefer sing when its sunny...i hope it means that their happy, its very lovely to hear them chirping! :))
 
Freddie was doing this noise the other night but he was stood frozen almost in a trance and it also stopped the other pigs in their tracks, It did seem more like a warning call in context but I guess we will never know!
 
The first time I heard this, I honestly thought a bird had got stuck in our dining room. I've heard it several times, but only once seen my girlie Ginny actually do it. It was a few days after her cage mate had passed away, and she still wasn't eating on her own, so I got up at 6am to go feed her. I sat with her for half an hour handing her bitesized bits of food. When she was finished, she stood stock still and did this chirping/bird song thing for almost a whole minute. It was so cute! Then she dived head first into a fresh load of hay, and started eating for herself :)
 
My Inca has done this twice :)

The first time, I was asleep as it was about 4 in the bas**** morning. The second time, we were just watching telly and she starting making the chirping noise, standing very still. Aztec was frozen stiff just listening to her.

I didn't realise it was so rare to hear until I looked it up :D
 
Yes, I used to have a piggie who did it and it used to sound like a car or house alarm going off. It would start with puffs of air, then gradually build up to a loud alarm-like sound, then calm down to puffs of air again. Her mouth would form a perfect circle. The others didn't take any notice of it. The piggie doing it seemed to be in a trance as she didn't take any notice of me going to see if she was OK. It could go on for 5 minutes and I'd think she'd collapse when she finished but she'd just carry on as normal. I used to think it was rather sad, as if she was singing to some far-off piggy in a far-away place.
 
Willow sung this evening again. It's ages since she's done it and now after just talking about it ... just like you BonBon :))

I'm still throughly confused about what it means though. I was taking them out of the hutch for floor time. Pippa and Boris were already inside, Willow was inside her tube and I had hold of Pixel. When Willow started, Pixel completely froze in my hands. We were both getting dripped on (I was crouched under the hutch cover in the rain). A few minutes later, she stopped and came out of her tube and Pixel seemed to wake up too (and realise she was getting wet :)) )

Very surreal, I wish I knew what it meant. I can't see this time as being either happy or stressed really :{
 
I`v heard snowball doing the chirping sound twice now. Both times I heard him , my washing machine was spin cyle. So I just assumed that the sound startled him, and thats why he was making the sound. It is such a lovely sound though, and sounds just like a little bird chirping.
