Guinea pig rocking back and forth!

My Vets4Pets are brilliant with my piggies and I have recommended them on the Forum. Not all Vets4Pets are the same though.

That's fair! Is there anything I should look out for that they should be doing?

Hi everyone! Took Cocoa to the vets and didn't really get any answers for the rocking back and forth! She is shedding a lot more than usual and weeing a lot, been told to monitor her water intake incase she has kidney failure🙁 thanks for the well wishes! X

Didn't they offer any other advice or a diagnosis? I would be inclined to take cocoa for another vet visit somewhere else for a second opinion? They don't sound very helpful if that's all they came up with?!
Hope she's OK at the moment & not had any change?
Healing vibes being sent your way. Xx

Totally agree, sounds like the typical fob you off but make out they know something to get your cash. Been there a few times til i grew a bit wiser. Could be wrong but hey ho

I know! I'm disappointed!

Birch Heath Vets are near to Chester and are exotics specialists. I would take her there if you have any doubts about your local vet.

Could you try Vicki's suggested vets?
I think the last one was like @Skypipdot said & just wanted to get your money :(

I've had a piggy with kidney failure before and she didn't rock, she lost weight & drank lots... & wee'd lots too but no rocking :(
Xx
Oh edit just spotted your last post... Would try them

Yeah which vets is that? Oh :( did she get better?

Vicki suggested Birch vets :)

Unfortunately Turbo was at least 5yrs old & passed away. But she was in kidney failure for about 12-18 months. She soldiered on happily until the end & the last 12hrs she deteriated rapidly&had to helped over rainbow bridge :(

I don't wish to go against the vet... But I don't think the rocking is connected with her kidneys.
You may have other problems with cocoa not mentioned in this thread.
But I would ask the alternative vet to investigate respiratory/circulation & ear issues for you to rule them out firstly if possible.

You're doing a fab job for her. Keep it up :hug: xx

Yeah I'm getting an appointment for her with them :) oh the poor little girl, glad she was happy though! The vet checked her breathing and said her ears where fine because there was no wax there but she didn't look thoroughly! Thanks so much! :) will do everything I can! Xx

Vets4Pets in Penny Lane Liverpool are very good with piggies, if you arent happy with your current vet and were able to travel an hour- they are on the recommended vet list and are very good with many piggy ailments- but I've not had a potential ear infection/tilt/rocking thing so far touch wood but hopefully they could help with that, they love piggies, especially lovely vet Alessandro Ladu who makes all abyssinian piggy appointments last at least half an hour at no extra charge just for extra fluffy piggy cuddle time :)

Amazing! Thanks so much, really want to find a great vet for them!

Just a thought - is the rocking back and forth a movement from one back leg to another?

If so that’s normal behaviour and nothing to worry about.

However - I always work on the basis that if I have any concern I go straight to the vet. It’s better to be reassured that all is well than risk missing something.

Hope your girl is ok.
Keep us posted
hi i know this isnt my thread but i was googling about my piggy her name is bj and i noticed when she was in her house alone and her sister laying down not bothering her. she seem to be asleep possibly but moving her feet back and forth every few minutes. she also has been sleeping standing which i didnt think was abnormal till now could she be in pain because she can relax and lay down so she is lifting her back feet up back and forth? or is it normal?

If she isn’t rumblestrutting (rumblestrutting of course being distinctive and normal behaviour), then i would definitely have her checked by a vet in case she is in discomfort
