My guinea pig kiki who is 7 years and 5 months old has something red inside her ears. First noticed on march 31st. Took her to vet on april 1st. Vet whos experienced said its just a swelling. not sure from what. She is eating, drinking, walking, acting normally. Hasnt lost weight.
In late march i heard her making a noise like she was in pain. initially i thought it was a uti as this is the sound they make when this happens. Was going to make app but then she didnt make the sound (2-3 days later). Then i hear it again and when i look she scratches her ear so i take a look in her ear (31st) and thats when i see something red inside. Outside looks swollen also. April 1st vet visit was given metacam and bactrim. Was also given terramycin. Now i know Terramycin is for the eyes so i asked if this is the correct medicine for an ear problem. Vet said its the safest medicine i can give her since she moves her head a lot and any medicine going in that ear could fall/splash around her eyes/face and if its a stronger/different medicine obv this would cause damage. She indeed shakes her head a lot and the Terramycin indeed landed on her hair and sometimes near her eyes. Hard to get inside.
2 more vet visits and to me it looks the same. Vet thinks its just taking longer to heal. But he still thinks its just swollen. I initially thought maybe one of my other guinea pigs nibble on her ears and it got swollen like this. But they can only bite outside her ear not inside but the problem looks like it started in her ear it got red and then it got swollen outside. Now i think it might be a spider bite but not sure. Saw a spider running around few days ago. Also remember around march 28th seeing one inside. It was smaller than a pinkie fingernail. didnt think much of it but now i wonder if a spider bite would cause this redness inside and swelling outside. all my other 5 guinea pigs are fine housed in same area.
Has anyone see this before? redness in the ear, almost looks like a lump. I cant tell if thats part of her skin thats just red or if its an actual lump thats red. Vet says its not a tumor/cyst which was his initial fear since this lump/redness isnt growing. Its now 23 days later and it looks the same to me. There was one day when the redness went away and instead it was completely white but then 2 days later the redness came back.
